Save The Gultches Feb 18-21

A no, the park was NOT muddy! I had very little trouble on any of the trails and the only damage today was that I ripped my passenger mirror off but that was from lack of trying to save it...

I saw you! Sorry I was not able to hang longer but I had to run.

Ok only took a few of my buddy mostly while his sammy was playing dead or about to play dead!

Yeah, turns out that was Loki. I talked to him for like 15 minutes before I realized who it was. It too me looking at his wheels and tires to figure it out. lol

Pictures are uploading as we speak. I'll post the high lights and then the link to the rest of them. :)

So, we pulled in at 9am and saw THIS! AHHHH!

My dad happened to catch the News that was there... The guy in the buggy in the very beginning of the video was riding with us all day today...

Pic that I like of my Junk.

Me and Loki. The only time I saw him he was pulling a shaft...

There's 131 pictures that I have. There's not a lot of great ones but here they are.

No kidding man? We broke our rear shaft about 2 minutes before loki, the other XJ (Chris and Justin) is who we wheeled with the majority of the weekend. While you were with them we had gone back to the towrig at overflow parking and were pulling the old shaft and putting another in.

Thats nuts. Sucks for Loki though, the first trail he hit he snapped a shaft, he had only been there a few minutes.

Only picture I took (cell) but thats what I was riding in, thats also the obstacle we snapped a rear shaft on.

Yeah, the only way I've done that one is all the way to the right. Put my driver tires up on the pipes and my passenger tires in the dirt right there. I've actually had mine fall over up against a tree right there but that tree is gone now...

I was actually ON that pipe when the guy with the pink axle walked up and asked if I had a spare shaft. Loki put his back together and had to leave. He said his son had had enough. lol

Yeah, we did it, it started as Chris (Xj on 38 creepies) was crawling it, having a little trouble, Loki (who I think is also named Chris) saw and pulled in behind us, we tried it and snapped the shaft, backed out and pulled up, loki went for it and snapped his shaft, after a few minutes of standing around chatting we went back to camp and started swapping out the bad shaft. Might have been 10 minutes before you got there. Next time for sure.

We cut a tire today wheeling, was pretty narley.

We considered going back today but had too much stuff to do... Now, that the day is over with I wish I had gone back. It's probably best that I didn't tho, I have to work tonight.

Great pictures so far! Also cool to see it made the local news down there.

Sucks to hear about the broken shafts too.

Swapped out the front drive shaft in the morning (fixed every single vibe problem I was having) and drove two hours to The Gultches. Paid to get in, turned on to the first trail and this:

Apparently even 760 joints don't hold up well either. Thanks to everyone that helped out and screw the only person that had a spare and wanted $100 for it. For any of you wondering, it's fine to drive 2 hours with a sock stuffed in your axle tube.

What are the long term plans for shafts?

I drove home with a shop towel stuffed in my axle tube. Works just fine when you run out of spare shafts.

Man, at this point I don't know. I want to stay on the D30 because of the OTK, high steer and WJ knuckles that I have on it.

I'm afraid that if I move to alloy shafts, I will start breaking gears. I can stomach changing a shaft every once in a while, I can't stomach replacing ring and pinions.

It was a stupid mistake. I am new to 4.88's and beadlocks. I launched the XJ on to the rocks harder than I've ever hit a trail. I think with a little practice and learning to wheel the setup, I could survive on stock 760 shafts.

I have tomorrow off, so I'm hitting all the local yards for shafts and other stuff that I need.
