Directions:
I8 to Buckman Springs Rd. Exit
Go right on Buckman Springs road about 3 1/2 - 4 miles. You'll see a fire station on the right. About 1/4 mile past the fire station, there will be sign to Corral Canyon OHV Area. Follow sign to right. About 6 miles up that road you'll come to 4 Corners, which is the staging area.

So coming from Point Loma, where can I pick up a one day pass, which seems the way to go. It would be interesting to see my kids use the bathrooom out of a moving vehicle.

You're probably right.

The range is always open... it's just an barren piece of land... but it is about 90 minutes from my house, so I was already planning on leaving my house before 7:00 am to get there by 8:30... I don't want to leave much earlier than that.

I could hit the range after the wheeling if you want to start earlier. I would just need to leave my clay pigeons at the staging area (they wouldn't survive past the first rock!)... if you want to do that, we could plan on leaving the staging area by 9:30-10:00... if that works for everyone?

Gonna try for new tires on Saturday morning, but I also realized that my front DS vibe is from a loose front output yoke...I'm guessing it's probably a bad bearing, and I was wondering if anyone might have a place and time on Sat to assist in some last minute repairs....i.e., a freeze plug in a crappy spot, a new front output bearing in the 231, and a general once over on torquing bolts down? If not, I'll try and bang it out myself...either way though, I'm comin'!

Although, I will say, after watching those vids, I'm only locked in the front with 260-x u-joints...hope there's bypasses =(

I just called the Ranger, and she told me that Corral Canyon IS open, and adventure passes are required if we stop at all.

She basically said if we keep moving through the trail without stopping, we're ok without them, but if we want to stop at all and hang out, then we are required to have them.

I will have one.

Stopped AT ALL? That's ridiculous. I've wheeled at Corral Canyon a million times and never got an adventure pass. In my book the adventure pass is if you are going to PARK your vehicle, ie leave it. Like park it for camping, or parking and go hiking. Stopping on the trail for lunch, or stopping to fix your broken junk does not count. Just because your stopped doesn't mean your parking your vehicle there. On top of which, if we stop it all, it's not for that long. And on top of that, I highly doubt the ranger is going to be going down to Bronco looking for guys who are eating lunch. That type of stopping falls under "activities incidental to through travel" (see below).

I'm not saying I'm against the pass or anything, the forest could always use the money, go a head and get one, but I'm not. I would definitely get one if I thought I might park my vehicle to go do something else other then use the restroom, eat lunch, photo op, etc. But since I'm just traveling through the forest, rules say I don't need one...

I was just passing on what the ranger told me.

She specifically said "If you stop to hang out at all, you need the pass".

I'm not worried about it either way, but they are only 5 bucks. :shiver: Some of the Rangers out here will invite you up to the tower and make conversation, others will want to write tickets for stupid things. It's a roll of the dice...

It's their job to sell passes, whatever let's just wheel. Plus the rangers will be very out gunned, HA HA THAT'S A JOKE PEOPLE.

Here's the deal on the adventure passes. Get one, don't scrape it and throw it in your glove box. Then if you get stopped or they start questioning, play dumb and go, oh crap yeah, I forgot, pull it out scrape and hang it. Otherwise, don't worry about it.

So, how many open/open rigs?
Tow points? I saw a picture of one with the hooks bolted to the stock bumper, not a good thing, front hitch, or factory hooks up front, same with rear.

Someone sounds to have major transfercase issues, recommend fixing before wheeling, not day of or day before. If you can grab the front output of your 231 and shake it, I'll gurantee there's more than just 1 bearing bad in the thing. Worse case, watch the for sale and pick up a used one that doesn't wiggle and go through that one, then install.

Not sure if I'll make this or not, got to get clearance from the CFO.

If your referring to the red TJ, those hooks on the stock bumper are factory.

No, the TJ is ok, those are factory hooks. This was a black XJ with yellow trim.

XJ factory hooks are available at your local wrecking yard, or from Custome 4x4 fab. The Rusty's hooks don't have the front angle plate to keep them from bending.

I would still like to do the breakfast thing, Can I get a head count for that? not planning on anything big, just a quick stop at McD's or something. I live near the 8. there is a McD's right across the street by the freeway which is about a mile north of the 8. I will be there around 9 if anyone coming from the north county/ or futher north wants to meet up there.
