Any other metal supply yards North of Hwy8 besides Industrial Metal Supply in Clairemont and Escondido Metal Supply? Preferably one with used/surplus stock would be a plus.

I called all those places and both E&J Metal and Bull Steel are open Saturdays, will sell tubing in less than 20' lengths (and don't charge a cut fee), plus have a remnant section.

this is good to know. since rancho metals in temecula closed, i havnt found a good place to get less expensive steal. do you know if any of those have the hardware section like rancho did? man i wish i would have known they were closing, i would have stocked up on alot more of their stainless hardware, and well all the rest.lol

Well turns out that Bull Steel in Vista only has a *small* remnant rack, and will not cut tubing less than their 20ft lengths. They only had one size of what I was looking for so I ended up at Escondido Metal Supply which still has a decent scrap/remnant pile.

Ha, not fab'ing anything special. Only making a hitch extension and receiver mount so I can tow a trailer with my Lance camper loaded on the truck.

X2 for Competative Metals. All their stuff is stored indoors, the guys are really helpful and friendly...AND...two of them are XJers!!! I don't go anywhere else!

I stopped in Cal-Mesa Steel in Escondido today and I want to say the service there was absolutely great. It's often hard to find good customer service these days, and these guys were very helpful and got me what I needed.

I needed about a foot or so of 11/16" rod (IMS didn't stock it). After helping me rummage through the Rem pile, they cut a 2' piece off new 20' stick, with no cut fees. Then they told "no charge, just make sure you come back next time you need something bigger".

I highly recommend giving these guys a try next time you need some steel.

BTW, I'm looking for a 16" length of 3"OD x .25" wall steel tube, preferably DOM. I called all the places below and they either don't stock it or won't cut off such a small length from their 20' stock.

If any one has any laying around let me know. Need it for an external axle sleeve so the 2.5"ID is important, I can vary on the wall thickness.
