Salvaged XJ

Many of you know that my XJ was 'totaled' when an elderly woman rear ended the parked rig. I have decided not to rebuild as I have had a ton of overheating issues that I cannot seem to fix. I am gonna part it out. This is not a for sale thread but rather a thread to request some insight into how I should go about parting it out.

I want to sell the axles, suspensions, bumpers, and drivetrain, but I am unsure about what to do with the body after that. I don't really have the means to tow it to a metal yard, but I guess could rent something to get it there. Then my question is how to get it on a trailer with no wheels, axles, etc. Or, should I just sell it whole and let someone else turn the wrench for the parts?

Any ideas? The wife is gonna kill me if this thing sits in the garage any longer.

picknpul will take a vehicle with no axles. i just had some 2x4s lying around and made a "sled" out of them and some old plywood and pulled it outta the garage with my xj in 4lo. if it has an engine and radiator and tranny they will give you 80$ and tow it for free. the engine in the last one i parted out was shot, and i sold the axles, then i tried to figure out what to do. they came within one day with a flat bed. i suggest you make a sled. it was worth it. and they take care of the title and paperwork. i just gave them the pink slip from the dude i bought it from.

and if you dont feel like doing it all yourself i might be interested in it if its setup nice....

dont rent anything. i gutted the last one, no doors, tcase axles, nothing but a shot engine, tranny and radiator, pulled all the accessories off the engine too. 80$ and they puck it up. you have to call and tell them the situation

Here is what you need to ask yourself:
A)How much do you think you can get for it if you sell it as is?

B)How much will you get if you part it out?

C)How many hours will you spend under it to get all the parts off?

D)How long will it take to sell off all the parts?

E)How much free time do you have?

If A > B then it is simple, sell as is!
If A < B with C leaving you less then $5 an hour . . . sell as is!
If A < B with C making you more then $5 an hour but D = your wife will leave you if you don't get that big ugly XJ out of the yard . . . sell as is.

But now if A < B with C leaving you less then $5 an hour but E > your money . . . Part it out! :D

I will tell you from RECENT experience - PART IT OUT. My POS is still sitting in the driveway with everything on it but I managesd to sell a lot of the stock parts which will pay for stuff I want to replace.

As the guys mentioned above, PnP will come and get it once you are done.

I like your math Letterman. I think the parts are worth more than the damn Jeep and it should be fun taking it apart.

I am thinking it might be more difficult to get it out of the garage even on a sled, so I may just have to start pulling it apart in the driveway and use the sled idea there.

I started pulling stuff out/off of it last night that may work on the next rig. I have a 4 door wrangler being delivered soon, woohoo.

See I is be heck O' shmart!

Whats the 4 door your getting a JK? You gunna be ready by June?

Oh and people that drive wranglers are lame!!! :D

I will definitely be ready to wheel by June. I will NOT be hitting Fordyce again for at least a couple years. My XJ was never the same after that trail!!!

Most people that drive wranglers are lame...except for you and I of course. I still remember my 94' YJ with a 4 banger. I thought I was so damn cool running 31 inch tires...which pretty much meant it was a 3 speed manual transmission. I hardly ever hit 4th gear!!!
