RWKHausSupply - What's Your KOH Story?

there is a reason jeepspeed guys truss their axles across the entire bottom, and the crawler guys across most of the top. if cal knew it was a jeepspeed course i bet he would have trussed the axle differantly.

I wouldn't call that thing they put on there a truss.....

It would be nice to have different axles for different courses.
The Glen Halen race won't have any rocks (I think?) but will have
some jumps.
And you can bet that next year there will be more rocks at the KOH
event.

Not meant to be smart ass, but if it was easy, there seemed to be a lot of DNF's. Was it because of the high speed sections?

Imagine taking a JS rig in to a full new course no one has ever seen, and they make the course full of trails like Sledge, Jack, claw, aftershock and chocolate thunder, and put in about 10 miles of desert.

How far would they make it? I bet the DNF rate would be even higher.

I build for King of the Hammers style course. This was NOT a KOH course. Besides One trail and even then only about 100ft of that one trail, this was something a JS rig would have done better at.

I am very dissapointed for the Mod class. The mod class rig at least could run bypass's and links etc, but the mod class rigs were vertually identical to what 4-5 yrs about KOH rigs were. And they had all the major trails thrown in there.

Funny how Falken Tire, a cheap named tire (at least up till THIS year), with ONLY a all terrain available, was on the #1 hyped stock class rig (only as of a month ago even) and NO SPARE, and the trail ended up being nothing more then what a all terrain needed to win. just saying lol..

We certainly broke because of the go-fast. I was out of the car on Martel and the rear end was certainly not bent then, but was before we hit pit 1.

Richard and I discussed it and are positive exactly when, where and how it happened. We got a little fast and sideways off of the course going into a left hand turn, hit a rock, bounced a couple of feet into the air and landed on the back right corner, sideways, at probably 30 mph, going into a corner.

Another competitor was broken there watching and cheered as Richard drove out of it. The hit didnt really feel hard, but it was the only hit either of us can remember at all and the timing is about right.

Full Floater is really the only way to fix that type of hit. In theory, you should be able to break your wheel in half and have no axle damage. Sucks that parts have become out of control expensive.

yea... I talked to blaine about that tire. he said until they come up with a better tread pattern for the rocks he won't be buying any.

I was out of town last week on business and got "the call" from Robert.

My hats off to Robert and what a incredible attitude he had on the phone.
You would have thought he won the race. His adrenaline and excitement was quite evident even though the broke engine might have cost him a very realistic shot at winning the race.

He described what is most likely a broken or burnt piston. We will know for sure in a week or so when Robert pulls it.

Looks like when the few bugs worked out we will have two very competitive Jeeps.

Both teams should be very proud of there builds.

you know... gerald and john built that car for the rocks. everything about it had their kind of rock-crawling in mind. mid-arms, lots of lightweight armor, beefy axles...etc.

aluminium armor, no spare tire, no tools, no parts..

there was nothing 'rock' about that build. ;)

thats the way those guys wheel every day though.

none of them bring a spare on the trail. savvy specializes in aluminum armor for the rocks.

if they were planning on racing open desert, things would have been built different.

and the only reason they ran that tire was because falken paid them to do it. they had MTRs on that jeep before the build for this race even started.

Kinda not true.

How would they have changed anything? They were already as light as possible. As for tires, Why would they have changed, even for money, if they were in it to win. They only ran on those for about 10 hours tops in testing. Yet I Know gerald had and likes his BFG's, and had some Kevlars to run. Both, hands down are a better choice for something Called KOH.

It is what it is, and they did build a Very nice rig and Gerald and John Did Awesome! Can never take that away. Just have a very small/slight thought of a conspericy therory running around in my head, and its not from loosing, its from evaluating the race (course and product). I would do it all over again, just like this with the same outcome, if that was the only option to the end even. It was truely a "Your a winner just being here with a rig ready to race".

The challanges and time it took was Way more then I thought, or I bet 90% of the people out there think, to get a car built to these standards and safety needs.

And I must say, I in NO WAY think Gerald or John are part of my slight conspericy therory! Both have much higher morals and values to ever get invoived with anyting like that, ever. Its one thing to take every rule to its limits, and some a bit past. But a whole other to ever do something morally wrong. Everything starts at the top with money, in sports.

It's about marketing and vehicle market share. Just look at the vehicles that are represented in the EMC video that Ultra4 posted on YouTube on Monday.

After market manufacturers are NOT targeting Cherokees Grand Cherokees and beater Toyota.

Awww...

Yeah my glory (and its hard to tell even) is at 2:48-3:00 on that video. The helo was literally ON US a few times. I mean check this out!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i7Bqam0TALs&feature=player_detailpage#t=0s

he was on us 3 times that I know of, with turning fans on, pumper on, restarting engine, wiping visors, etc, I am sure he was up there alot more then that even.
