Rusty's track bar

I have a Rusty's track bar with the H.D. track bar mount. A couple of weeks ago I was making a left turn and hit a pothole. The track bar broke!!! It broke on the threaded bushing end. I figured, no problem just get some threaded rod or a bolt and weld it in place and presto problem fixed. Boy was I wrong. After an extensive search, it turns that size rod and thread only exist on older Ford TRE's. So at this point I resigned to the fact that I was going to have to buy a new one from Rusty's. I call Rusty's he says no problem I can get a new one for $25.00. I think, great $25.00, that's not too bad, so I order it. The other day I am going over my credit card statement on line and I see the charge from Rusty's and it was $48.00!!! I call Rusty's to find out what happened, and he says that that the extra charge is shipping. So at this point I'm a little ticked. It's almost as much to ship the thing as the item costs!!! Part of the reason that I'm so mad is the fact that he didn't say anything about it. I'm thinking shipping on a small part like this can't be that bad, I've shipped bigger/heaver things further than Alabama for much less than $23.00. So anyway, to make some kind of point out of this post other than venting... When you order from Rusty's watch out for the shipping, I think he is hiding some of the cost of the part in the shipping. Just my opinion. An for my advise, ask him how much the shipping is before you give him your credit card.

Ive noticed that because of rising fuel costs that shipping prices have gone up across the board. Just a thought. I know I just started ordering stuff for my XJ and shipping is much more than it was when I was building up my YJ seven years ago. Its just something that I figure into the equation when I buy now and try to order close to home.

$23 shipping on a trac bar is not out of line. They aren't exactly lite.

I have noticed an increase too, but I think that $23.00 is ridiculous for a part that weighs about 8oz. I mean if he would have told me that the part cost $40.00 and the shipping is $8.00 I wouldn't have thought twice about it. It's just the price of the part I bought almost doubled because of shipping, and Rusty didn't say anything about it.

I agree with you... If I was buying the whole track bar!!! I just bought the bushing end!!! An 8oz part!!!

haha you make it sound like he is making a profit on shipping. He does not set the shipping costs. They are what they are unfortionatly.

Hey Neil,
I think they should have sent you a new one, with you maybe picking up the cost of shipping. I just ordered one from RockKrawler and it's going to cost $24.00 to ship it from Upstate NY to NorCal, so I guess $23.00 from Bama to the Sierra's ain't way off.......what only the bushing, that is a bit much.
How's Oakhurst doing? I used to live in Clovis.
Hopefully this one lasts alittle longer.

I kind of thought the same thing. I mean, it did break on the street! Oakhurst is great! It's sunny and about 70* perfect wrenching weather!

Great, it's hot up here too.
It's nice to see the sun for a few days.
Good Luck with the wrenchin.
Is the BigFoot Burger still open?

Not sure about the BigFoot Burger. Where's it at? I'll check it out.

I have the same track bar,I think I need to buy that extra piece.

To all with Rusty's trac bar, Mine broke after a year, snapped off at the TRO thread mount into the bracket

Go to a Napa auto parts store and ask for part# 269-2790
fits perfect and is heavier duty than the one it came with.
That may be a moog part # I think it's a YJ , TRO.

POST THE # FOR ALL TO SE IF YOU WISH

When I snapped mine, Rusty sent me a brand new tracbar free of charge. The only thing I had to pay was the shipment of my old tracbar to him. Pretty sweet deal, so I think you got ripped off. Ask for your money back, or keep giving him crap about it on here.

I wanted to order from Rusty's a few times and then stopped right when I saw the shipping cost. You can go on the UPS website and calculate the shipping cost for normal people, then see how much they charged for "handling". Usually businesses get lower prices than normal people too, since they do so much volume.

Moral of the story?

It was your responsibility to find out how much shipping was BEFORE you agreed to have the part shipped...

Wether it costs $1 or $100 to ship...

Doesn't matter...

Always find out before you give the Ok to ship...

If he misquoted you a shipping price...

It would be a different issue...

Approving a shipment without asking a shipping price then coming here and insinuating that the vendor is ripping you off is bogus.

Get over it...
