Well, I'm back from a weekend of wheeling in Panamint, and damn, I see that this thread has turned into something completely useless. I thought we had sooooo much constructive dialogue going on here..........

Except for Joe, I see he has tried to keep this thread on track with some seriously good input.

:puke:

:D :D

Hell, I am even taking my junk to JV....with 3.07's and I will need another "gearing Challenged" XJ'er..... c'mon....bring it....lets show these geared weinies how to do it!!!!

for steering it is stock with drop pitman with steering brace
I have not welded the lowers yet
unused 35 spare in back
NO spare drive line parts at all
no spare steering stuff

Ok, as much fun as we're having with this, we are going to end up out on the trail. all this web wheeling does have a point, to actually get our butts out to do some wheeling.

azxjman (BTW, it would be good to know your name), as trail leader of this trip, this is what will need to happen for you to make this trip. Since we have this challenge, we will forgo the axle, axle u-joint, and steering requirements, and let you run with a 27 spline rear axle, 260x axle joints, and stock steering with those 35" tires. However, you will need to bring spare rear axles, spare front axles, and a spare drag link. A spare tie rod would be good, but it can always be fixed with a high lift jack handle. You also need the tools required to make those repairs, and a rider to help you wrench if/when necessary.

Also, be sure to inspect all of your lower control arm mounts for cracks, both frame and axle, and weld up any cracks you might see, even tiny ones at the edges. Tighten all the bolts on the suspension and steering, especially the track bar axle bolt, track bar frame mount both inside and outside, steering box bolts, crossmember bolts, and rear u-bolts.

Now, I know your gas will be covered, but if you can't at least get yourself there on your own, you have no business running these trails under any circumstances. I don't recommend that Mark sends you the gas money. You need to be able to show up on your own, with the necessary spare parts, or you can't run. Your gas will be covered, and we will get you off of the trail if you break.

You may not have broken much on previous trails that you've run, but that means little. It only takes one situation to do major damage, and many times a break is cumulative, the damage was done at another time and the part was just waiting on that last little nudge to come apart.

So, let us know.

and I think in the meantime, you might consider not making blanket statements proclaiming you can go anywhere anyone else could....

some, if not all of those JV trails make our local tough runs look like bunny hills.

Just cause I may be able to conquere some local tough trails, doesn't make me the worldwide big dog of the jeep community.

Well when I made the statment I should have worded it a little more carefully. Really what I was trying to say is Gearing isint going to stop me from going where other cherokees can go. I defenilty admit that there are huge weaknesses in my axleshafts with the 27 spline 8.25 but here it isint that big of a deal and I have never wheeled outside of this state and originally I never intented to. But all this buisness about gears are not going to let me get through obsitlces on jv thats not going to be the problem I haveing if people are twisting alloy 44 axleshafts...

Jeeper, if you think you can make a gayer cage, i highly recommend you take this seminar. I did, and it worked for me!

You issued the challenge. They offered the time and the place. You're the one who said you can run anywhere they can -- that's where they run.

I think your bet has been CALLED

I love how Eagle gets in the middle of a bash/joke fest and acts all serious. Done in true Eagle fashion :D

wait until the naxja trail safety police get a hold of this one....

Our safety regulations (which are no longer in the by-laws, to appease the left coasters who always want exceptions to everything :D ) say there has to be a seat belt for each passenger. I don't think we specify that said passenger(s) must wear said set belts.

That's how us olde phartes are. Life looks more serious when you have half as much left as everyone else.

this thread provides 2 valuable learning experinces that you should take note of and avoid letting yourself become a victim of in the future:

talking out of your ass: 17 pages later, you realized what you should have before you posted for the first time on this thread.

fairweather fagosis: when you talk out of your ass (see first one), are offered a virtually free ride out to the trails (the costs covered would be variable costs aka: gasoline), say your coming, and then change your mind because you realize you'd be finished

Too late...

And in time it took for17 Pages of shite talkin, one could build a Jeep up to get in on the JV roster...my junk wouldn't be up for it (need tires & a couple cases of 10W30 for a 6500 mile roadtrip WOW it would be a bitch, but send money and we'll let you know) but I wasn't the one woofing either LOL.

I'm back!

First, Goats post about sums it up right.

Second, AZ you but out a challange that your 35/272/355 combo CAN DO ANY OBSTICAL WITH AS MUCH EASE AS ONE THAT HAS GEARS. (this might not be exact words but close enough for meaning) Where you just don't get it is not having gears (or the right equipment) is what is going to CAUSE the breakage/carnage. Not having a correct gear for tire size IS NOT going to let someone drive a trail in a manor in keeping with EASE. It just not going to happen, period. There is no debate on this by anyone other than someone who just DOESN'T UNDERSTAND. Adding more Mr. Mo to go over any obstical is going to create stress/damage/breakage way before using gearing to do the same manuver.

You made the challange, I'm making it possible for gas to get to and from Ca to Az. Your challange was you could follow any XJ with as much ease as they did on any trail. Remember ease includes things such as: use of Mr. Mo/breakage/damage/tire spin/winch/strap/caltransing. So if you want to come to your senses and realize gearing is a bigger part of jeeping than you have stated, have at it. However if you would still like to show us how it's done with 35/272/355 combo with as much ease as a geared jeep then the offer is still there for the gas money when you get there. You'll either show or not.

This thread has gotten way too out there! Flex Joe, I hope your coming out also so you can bring some of that stuff you've been drinking! :D

WOW!! happy thanksgiving everyone! AZXJMAN...guess since i'm a car guy maybe you would be willing to swap title for title to run with one of the BIG DAWGS....PLEASE!!! listen to thes guys..they know what there talking about. JES...thanks for the jv pics...again, they get better every time we look at'em.:)

OH boy guess what today I drove a friends xj with 4.88s and 35s with the 30/44 combo and it defenitly had more get up and go but it DID NOT MAKE THE TRAIL EASIER and even though it wasent the hardest trail I have ever done it is a 4.5 rated trail I think a little over-rated so now I have experince and have seen better and it wasent what I would consider the best mod to have on a jeep. There defentily were several spots where I noticed it whent up and over the rocks easier but nothing just a tad more throttle wouldnt overcome as far as I am concenred it is a very good mod but not what you are making it out to be. But of course It was only one trail and one time driving it and I still plan on going to 4.56 gears asap but for now these do me and my jeep just fine.

Hey azxjman, what trail did you run today?? I was out at Table Mesa around noon and saw a couple other XJ's. Was that you??

BTW, what's your name?? I don't believe we got it.
