Rugged Ridge XHD seats for "plus size" guys?

I'm posting this in Modified since the seats are an aftermarket part.

So at 6'2" and anywhere from 245 to 325 lbs depending on the year I'm hard on the XJ seats.

I've done the ZJ swap and don't care for the increase in height and of course, being a lard ass, I've blown out the frames on those too.

The Rugged Ridge XHD series is a little pricey but looks like a viable replacement.

Have any of you used them? Sat in them? Know anything about them?

I know I can weld up this and that or replace the ZJ's with more ZJ's but I am ready to pull the trigger and get a RR XHD seat. Just looking for anyone with experience with them to give a review.

This XJ is my one and only vehicle and I drive it everywhere, not just to a trailhead, so I'd like to be as comfortable as possible.

There are lots of vendors that sell reclining suspension style seats. Some around the same price point and even less. I thought about these too. But would rather go with prp, corbeau or other. I have heard good things about the rr ones tho.

I have a set of these RR seats. Look nice but not comfortable for my wide a**. Frame seems a bit flimsy. I would not buy another set.

I sat in the RR seat at a display with Bestop, Mastercraft, Corbeau, PRP and a few others. Even the bottom of the line Bestop Wrangler replacement seat was more comfortable than the RR. The side rails on the seat were two lumps about 14" apart. I hope it was defective, you'd have to be smaller than a third grader to fit.

I'm 6' ~ 235lbs... and love my Mastercraft Reclining seat. Installed it last year and still looks brand new after being in and out of it several times/day. I know they're pricey, but out of all the aftermarket seats, these have been the best out of the ones I've used.

I've had experience w/Cobra, Corbeau and a 'generic' suspension seat I purchased on a group buy on one of the other jeep websites.

I took the stock seat apart and rewelded and reinforced the frame at that seems to have fixed the issue. I've been daily driving my heep for the past year and a half with no seat related issues.

Yuup mine had to be stripped down and reinforced with some steel.

While it is solid now and has been for a few years , the seats still kind of suck.

I'm going a bit of a different route. As I also have a two door and replacements are hard to find and I don't want to spend $1000 for new suspension seats. I found a local apolstery guy that will rebuild the seat with new high density foam. A bit more shaping and such for about 100 a seat. So I will pull them out and reinforce the frame and then send them to him and have them rebuilt and back in the rig for about 250 and some time.

For me, the ONE thing that really makes a difference in my vehicle is the seat... I spend the most time there. All other things are a bit less important whereas comfort is concerned. It was worth it to me to spend the $$ on the Mastercraft seats. I've spent less on cheaper seats and got exactly that, cheaper seats. If you have the means then reinforcing and fixing the OE seat might be an option, but a good suspension seat is worth the money (assuming you have the money to spend) in my opinion.

I'm 6'2" and 292lbs. Spent 8 years in the Army being about 240lbs of rock and abs. Broke my back in Kosovo and now carry an extra 50-90 lbs, 10lbs of which are the Titaniam that holds my spine together and allows me to walk. When you are our size, 80lbs is the difference between Winter & Summer for some of us. Not saying it is healthy but just reality. 17-30% weight increase & loss.

Average American Man is 5’9” tall with a medium frame weighing between 139 to 153 lbs. With a 17-30% increase/decrease its 23 to 45 lbs. Does this sound more “reasonable” to those of you who judge quickly? I’d imagine it does.

No offenses intended to either of you, but think before you talk. Simple math can make the difference between you looking like an incompetent fool and a complete jerk.

Please let us know if you make any decisions on what to try and how it works out. There are MANY of us who would LOVE a more comfortable seat in our babies.

$500 a seat for the Mastercraft Reclining seat seems a bit steep, but WELL worth the cash if they work!

$500 is a lot for the Mastercraft, but you should check out the price of Recaros, Cobras, Spearco & a few of the high end racing line of seats. For an adjustable full suspension seat the Mastercrafts are the best (and so far most durable finish) that I've tried.

I only bought one for ME (drivers seat) as price is an issue plus rarely does anyone ride in the passenger seat with me. And the trim/color matches my OE Psgr seat really well. Could be something to consider....

I have noticed some of you have posted high dollar seats, as I already stated.. check out the vendors on pirate and tell them what you are interested in and they will give you a price. IIRC, when I checked a few weeks ago 2 prp's with new seat/sliding brackets was 750 shipped. Since seats are awkward size, it goes by "dimensional" weight so 2 seats cost the same to ship as one.

No worries. I know the reality every time I step on the scale.

I just got a job in fire/EMS. Weight is a big issue. Pun intended. But, I've lost 45 lbs in the last four months.
250 lbs puts me around 17% body fat so that's my goal weight.


So maybe I should wait till I loose the weight. I might save money on the seat.



In the meantime it looks like I'll rebuild the frame in my ZJ seat and save up for three Mastercraft.
