Rubicon trip for 2010????

Like I said, I have that whole week off (6/26 - 7/4), so I'll go along with whatever works!

If we're going to head up and camp at an established campground on Saturday, we should get reservations. There are numerous campgrounds in the area, but Saturday is quite busy... and I would rather have a known place to go instead of trying to find a spot after 10 hour drive.

Union Valley is a very nice spot, but almost fully booked for that weekend:

Loon Lake is right at the trail head, but the campground isn't all that great:

So... should we get some spots?

This trip is getting tempting.....

I may have an obligation this weekend but we'll see.

I like the idea of having a destination for this trip...

Leave So Cal June 26, camp near trail. Run the trail from 27-30th (4 days, 3 nights on trail).

If you guys confirm, I'll get a campsite.

4 days to run it? you can do it in a day.

I'm still interested. We may want to shave a day off. 3 days and 2 nights on the trail is plenty. I have not ran it, but I know quite a few guys who have and all of them said 3 days/2 nights was perfect. Allows for some relaxing and fishing and still get through the trail at a decent time. I am fine with a longer trip though. I almost have my rig dialed in and ready. Have any camp sites been reserved yet?

e-1 knows this is my dream run. i've been tryin for several years to run this. looks like i gonna get screwed again due to work. if i make this, it'll be just plain luck. my life is reduced to talkin to purple-haired women in line at food for less

That's fine with me.

As for campsites... I am ready to get one for Sat night... as soon as one other rig commits, I am going to make the camp reservations.

Well, I'm not another rig, but I'll commit!! And I'd like to take the few days to run it, so we can stop and enjoy the scenery occasionally... I am soooo looking forward to this!

I want make sure everyone knows that I am in no way trying to rush us through the trail in 3 days. If we all want to take our time and do it in 4 then I am totally fine with that. I just spoke with the wife and she is okay with me going. So pencil me in. 3 or 4 days are fine with me.

3 really... 1/2 sunday, Monday, Tuesday, 1/2 Wednesday... and I want to be off the trail early Wednesday to start heading back.

Yes, it can be run in a day... but what's the hurry?

I am not talking about hurry as much as it is not that long ;)

You want to do something for four days I would do Rubicon for two days and then Fordyce for two days.

You want to do something for four days

It's only three... :D

Anyway... I went to reserve a campsite, and it tells me:

"Arrivals for Saturday must also stay Friday. Please change your dates. "

For both union valley and loon lake.

I might be interested in coming up a day early to get a little fishing in. I need to run that by the wife first. I wouldn't mind holding down the fort until the rest of you guys showed up.

im gonna put in for my vacation right now. im in! got most of what i wanted done to my rig already. Just have to replace my RMS and re-do my tie rod.

All I need is to replace my front shocks, install my rear quarter guards, tune my cb, and replace my rear wheel studs (too short). I have all the parts it's just the time I now need to find. I should have no problems getting this stuff done by the time we leave.
