Sounded like a good interview with all sides having their say in the matter. I just found the lady from the public employees for whatever was over the top. Semms like she wants the whole thing restricted and over managed with the actual users of the trail to foot the bill with fees. I guess I don't agree with her way of thinking. Randi from the Rubicon Trail Foundation made his points well. Sounded like the Eldorado County guy has a favorable outlook on the future of the trail. I'm not sure what the water quality dept guy was talking about, but it seemed like the majority of his information regarding oil and fluid spills are coming from the web rather than seeing it first hand.

LOL... she was quite the extremist. She is missing that part of the appeal is that you can't just pick up a stock 4x4 an cruise through. It is a challenge with a great view. If you wan't an easy sunday drive there are thousands of miles of forest roads.

Everyone else, (the county and CA water board) seem dedicated to keep the trail open and help manage the environmental impact, most noted the vehicle fluids being spilt.

She strives to align herself with the infamous "dyke triplets".
She has long been an enemy of anyone who wishes to recreate on public lands via OHV or FWD vehicle.

I think over-all it was a fair discussion and at least everybody wanted to keep the trail open. While some of Karen's statements were over-the-top and rediculous, it is very hard to argue with most of her points. I'm not sure the trail needs to be "restored" but we certainly need to ensure that more of the trail doesn't become like the little sluice.

It only takes a small percentage of the current users of the trail who deviate from acceptable usage of the trail to destroy any credibility the rest of us have. Little sluice being a sideshow isn't the problem, but the 30 drunken morons leaving garbage and SHIT (literally) everywhere are. People like Karen, hikers, old farts that have been driving the trail for 50 years, real-honest-to-god-tree-huggers that want to shut the trail down, etc don't care that those 30 people are maybe 1% of the people that actually use the trail. They only care about the damage they have done. Its up to everyone else to keep that 1% in line, or even off the trail, or we will eventually lose the access to the trail.

Luckily organizations like FOTR and RTF have made it a point to maintain the trail and increase policing of the above idiots.

My biggest problem with her(and people like her) is that she(they) is(are) not (a) user(s) of the trail and do nothing to preserve the area or help maintain it.
Action says a lot and if all you're doing is sitting in an office, looking at a computer, and trying to find amunition on the internet to further your "cause" then you are more of a problem and burden that the (perhaps) 1% of asshats out there.

The more I think about it the more her comments disturb me. Jes brings up a good point, if all you are doing is looking for trouble you are most certainly going to find it.

Restore the trail? How, by driving bulldozers over it so a stock 1930's era solid wheel vehicle can drive it? It doesn't make sense to me.

Preserve and protect, that's what all OHV users should be focusing on. All the bureacrats want to do is take away our access to the lands we use and enjoy.
