Rough Country Lift??

I was wondering if any body has any input or opinions on the RC 6.5" lift. On paper it looks like the most bang for my buck, but why is it so cheap compared with other brands with less lift?? Also, is any body running rear steer on their rig. Would love to see some pics and here opinions as to what axle to use.

There has been may many threads on "Rough Country" lifts. Just do a simple search for "rough country". You will find that like with all lifts it is a love hate relationship. Some people love then some hate them. I have not had any dealings with the 6.5" but my 3.5" was from them. I had no issues with it and they have great customer service that will take care of you no matter what. Jason is our contact he is GRIMUS99XJ on this site.

I bought the 3" lift from Jason. When I first installed it, I was thrilled to death. After awhile, it got to be really rough ridin'. Come to find out, the shocks were bad and I got new ones from Jason. As was said, he's a great dude and they will take care of you, no problems at all. I had the new shocks on for a month or so and now it rides like a log wagon again. I am resigned to the fact that the shocks just are not good quality and I will have to buy some that will last more than a month without wearing out. I drive alot of gravel roads, and I can't see it hurting them that bad, but I'm sure if I take them off they won't even uncompress.

Bottom line is, the springs and custer service are second to none, but the shocks that come with the lift aren't any good, or at least the ones I've had weren't.

I have had my 3.5" lift for over 3 years now and I have had no problems at all. I have mod-ed it to 4.5" and nothing has changed. I have had no problems with the shocks I got... I don't remember what kind they are but they still work fine for me.

Thanks for the info guys. Does anyone know of any one that has a rear steer setup? I have searched the forums but havn't found any pics or much else for that matter.

Just because I'm nosy....why would you want rear steer?

Let me clarify my question. I understand that idea is to get a tighter turning radius, but my understanding is that you lose points with it in competition and there are much cheaper alternatives to achieving the same turning radius.

If is is just for the coolness factor....front axle swapped to the rear, electric motor (or motors depending on what exactly you're trying to achieve), wiring and joystick controls seem like the easiest set up. Perhaps a hydro-pump from a tractor?

'cause chicks dig it!!!!!! :laugh:. No really, I have always thought it would be neat to do one just so i could say i did it. If the rig ever makes it off the daily driver list, I'll probably get more serious about it. right now i'm just trying to decide what path i want to take with my build. The rear steer issue is out of reach moneywise right now.

I'm all for doing it just to see if you can. I did a basic search on google for all wheel steering and found quite a bit of information on different setups. It looks pretty straight forward, expensive, but straight forward.

I just ordered my 6.5" lift for my 89 XJ its getting installed on the 12th so I'll post up some pics when I get it!
