Rosie's Rejuvenation.

Small change of plans. I'm going to install it with the head as is and get a good baseline with the stock head and exhaust. Pound the yards for a newer 0331 and build that with LS1 valves, a healthy P&P to accommodate those valves and the bolt-on roller rockers. Talking with enough people, I'm concerned about opening up too much flow and losing velocity. If that is indeed the case, the "stage two" would be a perfect time for forced induction.

Cleaned the motor today. Paint comes Wednesday, and then reassembly.

Doug's package with the injectors came this weekend as well. Awesome little gift as well! Thanks!

Note: That Fram filter was sitting around the shop got put on to plug the hole. I do NOT use them.

Had a day off work. Started at the junkyard, picked up a newer valve cover with CCV elbows, nice looking exhaust manifold, and dual taurus fans. Got a ATF bath pulling AW4 solenoids for a friend.

Thus started the endless gasket surface prep. Did the valve cover, flipped it over for the oil pan and rear main. Easiest rear main job ever!!!

The business end

Got my first look at the pistons. Found markings on the bottom, DRE 19 E.

I was going to leave the timing cover as it, didn't really want to deal with pulling the balancer or possibly messing up timing. Since I couldn't find the source of the pistons, the curiosity got to me about what cam is in it.

annnnnnd.... Hesco RVOB.

By the end of the day (with some interruptions), I got back to this point with new gaskets and seals. Definitely ready to get a few more things on and paint. The Caravelle Blue was too expensive/difficult to get, so I have opted for a Chrysler Red. The color is off in this shot, the motor is orange right now.

Hemi orange is the color I will use when/if I ever rework an engine.

Lookin' good Nick.

If I do a stroker in the future it would be black. It goes better with white. However, I have a line on something Ford Blue! :D Looks good Nick!

It's a lot easier to put the oil pan gasket on when the engine's upside down. :D

Note to self on next rear main/oil pan gasket job.....

Lookin sweet!

Well it's time for an update. The motor sat for awhile like in the last picture, and when I went to crank it... no turn. I freaked out and pulled the head expecting to find pistons stuck to the cylinder, luckily that was not the case. The main bearings didn't like sitting dry with a new RMS and torque. I ended up taking each cap off and lubing up with Lucas, as well as the cylinder walls. Haven't had any problems turning since then.

Ordered a second round of parts, including motor mounts from Ironman4x4. Beef.

I ended up painting the motor Chrysler Red, the Caravelle Blue was just too difficult/expensive.

So this is basically the point I'm at now.

Still have some parts to order, but I'm basically at the point of tearing stuff out of the Jeep I will be using. I feel like I'm over the peak and headed towards the end now, with the installation being the last big thing.

Oh yeah, having everything in arms reach is really nice :) Gotta whore out the cart a little more.

Sweet!

Please put a Wix filter on it.

Chrysler red was a great choice.

That fram is there to plug the hole only. It was an extra sitting on the shelf from some deal with buying oil. I have been running k&n.

I bet it gained another 10 HP from the paint!!!

Awsome looking engine. You've done a great job on it.

Started tearing down the Jeep today. It went surprisingly quick, I work pretty slow on my own stuff, but 3.5 hours got me to here:

Cleaned up and paint some brackets, put a few things on the new block, but I'm at the weight limit I want to put on this stand.

No more A/C :)

Took a 3.5 hour ride up to Cary for the weekend to try and get the motor swap done with Nick. The key word in that sentence was "try". We had every intention finishing today with the new motor in place, but due to a late night out last night which really killed the motivation for today, plus not being able to find the right size pilot tool for aligning the clutch, we didn't get the new block installed. Not to mention it was in the mid 90's and stupid humid, so there were a lot of breaks taken to cool off. Anyways, to the pics of today:

Straps in place:

Shortly later the hood made a good effort to decapitate us, so we decided to try and take it all the way off. An honest effort was made to properly remove the cable so we could put it back on like it was later, but Nick quickly lost patience for the dumb set up of it and decided to cut the stupid thing off and install hood pins at a later date:

One of the final bolts to remove, and of course it's in a spot that where I could only get about 1/8 of a turn at a time on it. Half an hour of this later and it was finally out:

Pretty sure the rest of the drivers side motor mount should be surrounding this bushing...

Yup!!

About to pull the motor out. At this point the cross member had been unbolted to allow the motor to move up and down easier. Neither one of us thought far enough ahead on that plan to realize we'd then be playing a game of drive-train jenga. Trying to figure out the easiest way to get the motor and only the motor out here:

Just about out:

Finally out and trying to move it into a place that would be out of the way of everybody and everything:

Use your imagination and picture the new block here:

The offending slave cylinder that has been a headache for the last several months....and neither of us have overly high hopes for it this time around either

It's a lot easier to work on the slave cylinder when there's no motor in the way and you can use the track bar as a chair:

Wish we could have got the new block in today, but with out being able to properly center the clutch before hand that wasn't possible. With that said, we still got a fair amount done for a Sunday.

With this im assuming your talking about yourself Tim!

Negative. If you'll look closely at the pic, you see my arm sticking out of the garage.

Jerk. lol.

It runs!!!!!!!! I still have some minor things to deal with, the biggest being wiring the taurus fans. It sounded pretty wild dumped out of 2 ft of pipe after the manifold, which I had an appointment on Tuesday for exhaust but...

I killed the clutch slave again on the first test drive :( I had a bad feeling about replacing the o-ring on that slave, and now I'll be pulling the trans once again. My Crawl chances just went to very slim. Anybody got a lead on an external bellhousing?
