ROM thoughts and questions

As yall can tell by now Im quite pissed about this happening. I wouldnt have said a word if the event had been planned for Hidden Falls from the beginning as I would have just planned for it. Notice my post count and youll see I hardly post unless I feel the need to. I am active in the club participating in events and trying to meet the members though. Unfortunately its stuff like this that has led to many a chapter member being run off or just giving up on the chapter I believe. I sure hope for the chapters sake that yall correct this so that we dont lose any more of the very few members we do have. Im not attacking anyone so please dont take it that way. But I would love to hear other members views on this issue.

Not to split hairs here but let's take a look at things. You keep throwing the word member around. Define it. And by it....I mean define the word member as it pertains to naxja.org. All those awesome prizes, all the public lands that are kept open for wheeling (granted, not as prevelent in our region), hell even this website.....you think that shit comes for free? Before anyone here starts beating their chest about how they're trod down upon and they have no say because the big bad bod pushes them around, perhaps they should consider how much they're apart of to begin with. Post count don't mean shit. Whether you post 100 times a year or 100 times a week. Supporting the org supports the org.

On that note.....hardly a dime of yearly membership dues go to chapter funds. Has anyone here noticed Jay hawking his wares upon the for sale chapter? Trying to ditch 1 and 2 year old shirts at a fraction of the price of what was originally asked for them knowing that hardly anyone wants them. Hell, I've got a handful of XL ROM '10 and '11 shirts in my closet and I can't even wear an XL anymore without it looking like a tent on me. To even get funds together for things like this, we have to have preregistration sign ups for the big event. I still don't think poor Kurt ever went in the black again after all the money he and Kristy personally put into ROM '10. Jay was finally able to scrap together enough money this year to start an account for RRC treasury. Not only does this look cleaner from an auditing standpoint but it finally clears anyone person from being responsible for making things happen out of their own pockets whether they were actually responsible for they just cared enough to make it so. And so here we are.....a week out and I have more finger on my right hand than this chapter has members (or users) that will preregister for the event.

This chapter has to be one of the biggest geographically speaking and yet we have the smallest base of participation. Is it because we don't do everything we can to recruit every single xj driver we see....perhaps. But the fact is, it's around 300 miles or so from katemcy/hidden falls (and further out trees ranch) to gilmer/bridgeport (and further out hot springs and disney). This huge stretch with a ginormous perimeter area and very few wheeling spots around lends itself to few enthusiasts. I wasn't really vested in chapter activity a few years back as I didn't have a 4wd xj but I'm pretty sure that RRC didn't exist. As it exists now, it's just a conglomeration of left of bits other chapters couldn't quite absorb and it appears that it won't ever get better despite any efforts from the current or past BOD. Maybe Jay has had enough, maybe he hasn't. That's for him to decide. Who wants to step up and actually challenge him next time there's an election? Or are you saving your gusto and campaign speeches for when something happens in the chapter you don't like? Yeah, I thought so.

When I was mentioning member I was talking about those that are RED and those that are BLACK(like myself). I was a paid member and simply didnt renew because of being broke. I think thats understandable. Yes the paid membership to NAXJA does a lot of good for the wheeling community. Though Id be willing to bet the site makes way more money off of vendors and advertisers than member fees. Guess what, just because a member isnt RED doesnt mean they dont support all that you mentioned. If a black member buys from the vendors on this board they are in turn supporting the board because that vendor will stick around as they are creating business for themselves. Also including those black lettered members and getting them involved makes them become red members. And before you attack me for "beating my chest" reread my posts and youll see I didnt take anything personal and made no complaints that I was "Trod upon or pushed around by the big bad BOD".

Yea I was going to be buying shirts that Jay brought to ROM as youll see in his for sale thread to try and help out. I was there at ROM '10 the same night as the BOD so that I could help out and also took a money loss when helping so yea I know what happened. If I had known it made a difference and the money was needed ahead of time I would have gladly preregistered.

Yes the geographical size of the RRC is the biggest hindrance. I never blamed that on the BOD. I was not eligible to challenge in the last elections and wont be again next time even if I do decide to turn red again. So cant help you out there. So should I have not brought this up and instead waited to try and become a BOD member before saying anything?

No idea who has paid or who has not but I assume not many.

I was called and I was OK with the change... I was wheeling in Sonoma at the time... look at the map ;)

I am all for going to Barnwell and I do often with other guys I wheel with my member number is 951 what's yours? The ONLY time I've been to Hidden falls is with NAXJA guys.

I say lets stop the whining and let's have it at Barnwell and wheel. If that brings more of you than GREAT. If not than we can just say the BOD was right.

I don't like mud but I like Barnwell and like Hiddenfalls too.

If we go back to Barnwell who's coming????

Just some opinions from a black letter:

I think the BOD did the right thing. It was a tough decision and they needed to go with the safe bet. Making a decision based off the pre-registered guys' opinion is a safe bet, everyone else is a "maybe". If I had the ability to go to Gilmer this weekend, pre-registered or not, it wouldn't be hard to change direction and add another hour of drive time. Simple as that. I mean, do you have to book new appointments at the spa and salon or something? It's camping, so there shouldn't be hotel reservations.

As far as what a "member" is, this should be clear cut with the red, green, and black letters and what not. Yeah, maybe I should toss in $35 next pay check and go red, purchase a shirt to two. Until then, I am well aware I'm not a contributing member, therefore do NOT make demands or attempt to get things my way when it comes to chapter subject matters.

Anyways, just an opinion, nothing more. I think this drama is unneeded, and that some need to put up or shut up as previously stated. Really wish I could go, but as I feared it isn't going to happen.

Yea you lucky person got to go on one of the CO trips. Those sure look like fun. Now obviously Im the one complaining about this so Ill put it as simply as possible. Yes if it is at Barnwell I will be there but not sure on Hidden Falls. But im not nor was I ever asking for it to be changed just for me. Most of yall seem to think its me complaining that yall messed my plans up and I got butt hurt. My only complaint is that the switch was made at the last minute. I dont care where ROM is held as I had been planning for it since the event was posted. This last minute switch really messes things up though. Maybe I am the only person that cares or that this effects but maybe not. I dont know. Simply put no I dont think this was the right choice but Im still going to try and make it work.

Youre right it is only an hour difference for some. But what about those people in east TX, Louisiana, Arkansas and Oklahoma that this change adds 300 miles to their trip? All my posts have been suggestions and trying to bring light to the subject that maybe the BOD didnt consider. If youll read my posts youll see this. As for the "member" thing well I wont go in to that. I am one of the few people that participates in events and gatherings though so I guess I do put up.

ok, we did consider the milage change....BUT it was the
BOD's hard decision to try to not have a wet, muddy rainy trip that all involved would have not liked....i dont know bout y'all but i dont like to wheel, camp, hang around outside in the rain... sure i can deal with it BUT the getting sick afterword and missing a week or so of work doesnt sit well with me, and having my daughter sick does not sit well either. As a matter of fact my family and I were just there earlier this month and had a blast and was looking forward to going back and spending more time with my oldest daughter and her boyfriend who has never been Wheeling before. therefore this was not an easy decision for me/the BOD to make.

I guess the hardest part for me is the fact that there was a greater chance of rain for hidden falls than barnwell at the time of the change. So it made no sense to move it because of rain. Thats my opinion.

um thats a freakin untruth..... we looked at both and HF WAS NOT under two flood warnings....there is a 40% chance in gilmer and 20% at HF...as of 10min ago...was 60% gilmer/40% at HF on thurs last week up to tues then it went down....

I made mention of the rain chances in my very first post I believe but didnt save any copy to prove that so take it as you may. When I looked it up which I believe was Sunday night on the weather channel they had Hidden Falls with a greater chance which has since changed. Whoever reads this can take that as me making something up or as the truth. Its up to them.

Oh and for the flood warnings. Please read them. They are flood warnings for a river near Gilmer which has nothing to do with Barnwell.

ok so i guess u dont cross any of those flooded creeks or rivers to get to gilmer/barnwell???? yes u do.... first post say chances not %%%

nuff said.... what is done is done.....no hard feelers at all
Your right its done and the events going to be in Hidden Falls and youll notice ive been posting about Hidden falls. All of my posts have been to point out what I think is wrong with what played out. That way maybe things will happen differently next time. Not just to complain but to maybe help with future events and planning.

i was at ROM 10 and it was a lot of fun...did it rain yep it did.... did it get cold yep it did... did it snow yep it did...was i in shorts yes i was ...did i freeze my ass off yes i did ... do i think BMRA is the best wheeling place ive ever been yes i do .... but that is why i havent been to a ROM since... can anyone say cluster*#$%m.... btw i would love to go to HF but it is a hell of a drive from Conroe to HF..... has anyone ever thought of maybe making the RRC into sub groups ? good luck with ROM hope y'all have fun out there. it looks like its a great place to go wheel and post up some pics .... i was the black jeep with the green bumpers
