Some of u won't even drive 4hrs to wheel and u want others to drive 8 to 10hrs...... Wtf?????

I drove 8 hours to get to Gilmer and hidden falls is close to that as well. Thats the problem with Chapters as big as ours. You need to pick something as central as possible to help out the guys who come from 8-10 hours away. Bridgeport seems most central, is close to main highways and close to help and parts if needed. Yes, it's nice to be able to roll from the campsite to the trail when they are so close, but that's really the only drawback to Bridgeport.
It's 5 and half hours from San Antonio
it's 3 and a half hours from Oklahoma City
It's 10 hours from El Paso
It's 5 hours from Houston
It's 4 and a half hours from Shreveport, La
It's 5 hours from Tulsa, Ok
it's 4 hours from Texarkana
4 hours from Round Rock
5 hours from Flatonia
All travel times are taken from Google Maps so they will be off from reality, but they are all off by equal amounts. For me it usually takes just under 4 hours to get there, but that's pulling my XJ behind the truck and dealing with two kids that don't like their seats.

OK I do not know any other way to say this. Soooo I know you all want to "try" Bridgeport. BUT I, we, the Bod, do not feel its a good idea to "try" out a place by making it a chapter "Event". Let us go there more as a get together, so we can check the place out. I do want to check it out as well but for what we need as far as our "Event" goes it does not fit our needs.

As far as central location for some where that does have what we need on site that would be Gilmer(Barnwell mountain). It's just to the east of Bridgeport.

I would also like to check out Disney as it looks like a sweet place. Alot of variety but with the time frame we are in some of us would not be ready for such a long trip and be able to get the days off needed for a day to drive up and a day to drive back plus wheeling a couple days. I, myself being one of them as well as a couple others I know right off hand. We might keep that on the top of the list for later in the year..

XJEric--I understand the alcohol thing, I do really. We haven't had any issue with the group in all the years that I have been going to RoM that someone has forgotten there limit. We may get a little louder as we drink but never to the point of drunken stupidity. We also have kids(of the younger variety not just us older kids...lol) there every year I have been with no complaints from the parents. We try our best to be "family/kid" safe.

Jay,
I'm not accusing anyone of that, I was at ROM '10 until the snow and wind finally chased me and the pregnant wife out. Everybody was very well behaved. NAXJA boys and girls are always fun loving but always good enough to be considered well behaved! LOL

I worry more about people that are around that aren't there with us, and their stupidity spilling over to our areas. I've seen it happen other places. I like to toss back a few too, don't get me wrong. I'll be right beside y'all wearing a lampshade singing "Red Solo Cup" at 2 am!

Let's please not do Gilmer again, it's too far off the beaten path, with little-to-no real facilities. It seemed nice enough but I wasn't real impressed with it.

What is it with you guys and Toby Keith?

As far as Gilmer and facilities, doesn't Bridgeport offer even less?

I like super lift, Bridgeport, or Clayton OK. I'm gonna try and actually participate again this year!

Aint there a campground right up the road from Bridgeport?
Camp there, convoy to the playground?

BTW...
this "get together".. is it for "Red Letter People" only?
I'd like to show up, IF i can get the time off the truck when ya go.
(i only get up to 4 days off at a time, IF iam lucky i MIGHT can squeak 5)
Be a GREAT time to pony up for a membership. ;)

He's BA! That's what.

Sure the camping isn't on site, but you just convoy over, no biggie.

Here's my take on this whole deal. Our actual park should really be almost second place in importance in planning this thing. We need to consider getting our attendance numbers up. What's going to do that? Making the trip as financially painless as possible.
With the way things are now, I don't think there are really that many peeps that can afford to do a 8-9 hour trip and then pay to wheel and camp. I certainly can't. I'm pretty sure a 4 hour trip is more doable for a larger number of people. As I showed in my earlier post, Bridgeport is the closest thing to a central place as we are going to find. Some Okies can't really make the trip to Hidden Falls no matter how bad we want to. The guys out in New Mexico, or El Paso area will certainly prefer a place an hour closer than Gilmer. Nowhere is going to be perfect, but this place is closest to it. It's easy to get to, (aka. it's not an HOUR from the nearest interstate) The town is bigger, so it has more to offer in the way of hotels or parts stores. It's got more to offer even though the campground isn't located on-site.
Our biggest problem with this chapter is event participation. That's just the nature of a huge geographic area. It sucks but it's the truth. We need to look at what's closest to EVERYBODY so we can make it possible for them to come.
For people that have never gone before a long drive to an unknown park to camp and wheel with people you barely know is a whole lot harder to justify than a place that's only 4 hours down the road. With the way things are today, a LOT of us have to really watch the wallet. We always complain that not enough people show up. Well, if we want new people to show choose a place that is not as far away. Sure Bridgeport isn't as big or as well known as Superlift, Katemcy or Clayton, but it's a heck of a lot closer to MORE of us than those bigger places. The draw of the event should be the experience of hanging with fellow NAXJA members, and most of that will be around a camp fire with some beer. The wheeling is an added bonus. Once you get a bunch of people who are coming EVERY year because they would skip the birth of their first born just to come, then you can move it to the farther out more secluded parks that are more of an undertaking to attend. The event is going to be awesome no matter where it happens. But we need to make it close enough for our peeps to make it out there and share in it. You make it 8 hours away, and a LOT more people will elect to sit it out in hopes that next year will be closer. If all I cared about was making this as close to me as possible, I'd be pushing Monkey Creek or Coppermines. Bridgeport is the most logical location, that will gather the MOST participants.
