Ok its that time of year again where we the BoD have to make plans for the "RoM"

Here is where you come in. :wantyou: We want to know where you would like to wheel and why. I am talking serious ideas here that we ALL may be able to get to. I know we would all love to go to Moab but that's more time frame to set up then we are dealing with...lol You get the idea.

I do not want the negative feedback to others ideas like "That is too long a drive", "That's to much money", blah blah blah...... I just want you ideas on where to go, where everyone will have a good time. I, we, the Bod, reserve the right to delete any and all negative feedback.

Last event (2011)we held it at "Hidden Falls" in Marble Falls Texas. We had only a few show up,:( you know who you where.... It was fun but really wish more showed up.

Year before that and the last 3 or so years I have been here we have gone to "Gilmer". More showed but I think that comes from the fact that there are more members that way. I have attended all in the last 5 or so years and except for last one(2011) I have driven to "Gilmer" which is a 4 or so hour drive for me. So I know all about y'all not always wanting to drive far, but, we are spread out some of us WILL have to drive to be part of our runs.

We are not going to please everyone. I, we, know that. That is a giving. We just need your ideas sooooooo lets have them.
 
Mine- I like "Hidden Falls" in Marble Falls, Texas. It has a bunch of stuff for everyone. Whether it be easy trails, climbs, creeks(gets interesting with more water in them, lol),some rock, etc. If it rains the park is not a big mud pit. There are ample facilities available for both campers and RV'rs. I find that all the people that go there, staff included have all been extremely helpful with any and all of our wheeling needs. I feel safe there,I have no issues leaving my keys in my Jeep when not around there. I would share my beers around a fire with anyone I have meet there. I guess besides the great wheeling I like the relaxed environment that the park offers. The town is pretty close as well and doesn't seem to mind us as a sport.
 
Why don't we try something a little farther North? Let's think about Bridgeport. Or maybe I'm pretty much in the sticks so everything is a drive. Either way when looking at the map Bridgeport TEXAS is as close to central located for Evr'body!
 
I dig Hidden Falls; probably my first choice.
I'm being honest when I say that I don't much care for Gilmer but I could do it again at some point.
Never been to Bridgeport and wouldn't mind trying it sometime.
Clayton and Hot Springs are a little far for me.
 
Hidden Falls would be first for me.

That said I was recently up at Gilmer and I have to say I missed the trails there. Also the new managers are A LOT better. Ditto on it having facilities for everyone.

Never been to Bridgeport but willing to go if they have overnight facilities.

Im going to bridgeport in january i could post up some pics. going down there with okjeepthing. if rrc went to bridgeport id make an effort to be there.
 
There isn't any ON-site camping at Bridgeport, but IIRC there is a campground that is really close by. The guys from Lonestar Jeep Club and TORC hit B-port quite a bit and that's where they camp. Paul (Mapman) actually works at B-port, so he'd have some good insight on the matter.
 
The fact that there is no on-site camping is a little offputting. Where are we to camp? Some campsite down the road? And if we break something on the trail? Instead of hobbling back to camp, we get back on the highway and drive back to the campsite?

How big is Bridgeport? Do they accept groups and what is their minimum?
 
You can camp at B-Port.
$15.00, 2nd Saturday of every month.

Overnight camping is permitted the second Saturday of every month. Campers should be aware that electricity, water or dump stations are not available at this time. Camping will only be permitted in the designated area near the gatehouse providing easy access to the restrooms. All campers must obey all park rules as posted below, as well as the specific overnight camping rules.

ROM is a weekend event. People arrive on Friday and leave on Sunday. Somewhere that only allows camping on Saturday night, much less on only one weekend of the month, is not real conducive to our affairs. Also, no fires or public nudity. What kind of camping is that?
 
I'd say no fires would be a turn-off.

If member's are sure to pony-up than it does not really matter to me where it is. Plenty of time to plan for it.

I like to wheel and the more the merrier. I just don't like the "Squeaky Wheels" that put in opininions and likes and dislikes and never show no matter where it is.

What will it take... place and incentives to have you come???
 
OK looking at Bridgeport rules and times of operation just does not seem that it can accommodate us as far as convenience and the way we(the RRC) act at our events. And you know what I mean by that........we can be a loud/rowdy bunch and we all/most like to drink......

------there camping rules are as follows(right from there site)
· Camping is permitted in designated areas ONLY! Do not camp in woods or on trails.
· Campers must observe all daily use park rules.
· No open fires are permitted. Grills, camp stoves, hibachi grills, etc. are allowed.
· Remove all personal property and put your trash in refuse containers when leaving.
· Use toilets properly. Do not throw garbage in toilets!
· No person shall obstruct vehicular or pedestrian traffic.
· Campers may check in during regular park hours only.
· All non-camping visitors must leave no later than 2 hours after trails close.
· Keep noise at a reasonable level. Operated all audio devices so as not to disturb other campers.
· No fighting or boisterous behavior.
· No public nudity.
· Quiet time must be observed between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m.
· Campers are responsible for the actions of all camping party members and any visitors to their
campsite.
· Any vehicle leaving the park after 10 p.m. will not be readmitted until 8 a.m.

Strike 2 for some, not all of us

11. No alcoholic beverages or drugs are allowed

Strike 3 for most of us
hours of operation..Saturday and Sunday ONLY...most of us show up on friday to an event so that we can be set up and wheel on Saturday and most of Sunday. and the times are (in our case) Spring&summer 8am-7pm

Strike 4(does that even exist..lol)
*** The main gate will be closed and locked during non operational hours!!*** i.e if your in Saturday you are stuck and NO arriving on Friday like most of us do.

We, the BoD, looked into Bridgeport extensively for using it as the 2011 RoM. Although the place does look really nice there are too many things that worked against us as far as RoM is concerned. Most of which is highlighted in Red above.

I am in no way bashing on how the park is set up and run by any means here. The place just isn't really set up for our (RRC) needs as far as an event is concerned. The drive is just like going to Gilmer so that's not a issue either.

This info was taking right off of there home page. And is provided for others to look at and decide for them selves if the cons out way the pros of using this park as the RoM event spot. Wheeling it's self not being a looked at factor in the equation of the above info.

Personally, No alcohol in the park IS the draw for my family. Garauntees we don't have anything happen because somebody forgot what their limit was. The campground just down the street will allow all the normal ROM shenanigans without risk.

THen again, I think Daisy would be really good. It's new(ish) and has drawn some pretty good press.
