"Rodovia Da Morte, stremnaya - Bolivia"

Translated: Highway of Death in Bolivia. One lane the whole way, through amazon jungle, mountain passes, steep dropoffs, and this lovely bit of engineering masterpiece.

No way you'd get me on that road!

Also a special on the history channel

Travel high into the Andes to a road that has more deaths per mile than any other byway in the world. This steep and bumpy road plunges almost 2.5 miles in the four hours it takes to drive it, and those who choose to make the journey will endure an often extremely narrow path that hugs the mountain as it snakes through dramatic, verdant scenery. Twisting between waterfalls and rocky overhangs, the road is unprotected, making near death an almost constant travel companion. A fatal accident every two weeks is not uncommon, and by 1995,the road was commonly referred to as world's most dangerous road. Marsh Mokhtari is our guide, as we explore the people and places along this treacherous path.

Wonder if they have a traffic lite at each end and you have to wait...

I watched some of that last night. Looks like fun. But I did not see any of that first section in what I watched. Perty amazing stuff. Too bad they canot get it cut further into the mountain to help aleviate the needless deaths of kids. May Bill Gates will see this and give them the money. :dunno:

I wonder how many people died making that road

Just saw that special on History channel. They didn't say how many died making it, but they did say that like 150 die driving it each year!

He asked what is the purpose of a road such as this.

It appears to be a cross between spanish and portaguese

A friend of mine travelled this road on a bicycle. There are some travel agencies which offer this. Wouldn´t be my cup of tea, but to each it´s own. I prefer the small gravel roads in the french and italian alps.

Cool road!

But I've seen worse:
