I have seen the two passenger version, where do they put all the batteries in the 4 passenger version ??? Does it have a useable trunk ?? They seem to be locked in here for $20140.00 for the MT version.
I was looking a really clean VW diesel pickup, 84 I think, nice, wish I could fit in it, I could live with 50mpg hiway...

The batteries are behind the seat and it still has HUGE trunk. The only main difference from regular civic is that it doesn't fold down the rear seats for longer cargo area from the trunk.

Don't count on 50. I never got more than about 48 from my Rabbit diesel, and it averaged in the low 40's. And it wasn't really very reliable. The later pickup might do better if it has a 5-speed (my Rab was a 4). If the Prius hybrid is only geting in the high 40's I wouldn't think it's much of a bargain.
Now if only Honda would come out with comfortable seats!

Actually now that you mention it... I'd say the civic seats are pretty comfy... now in regards to the mpg, well, almost anything beats mu 15~16mpg in the XJ, plus I don't put miles on it that way

So does this mean 4.88's? Or maybe a D44 Front? You got your DD, what are going to do next.

Of COURSE!!! It will be 4.88's front and rear with Detroit in the rear and then 33's as soon as I get a chance. The only thing that's killing me now is the time: I'm coming up on finals (about a month away) and I got less then 0 free time
and then my sister comes over for 2.5 months, but I will try to squeeze in some wrench time in between Btw, my brother in law is a mechanical engineer (bearing specialist for huge mofo turbines) so I might get some wrench time in under "spending time with brother in law" category About rest.. front 44 or lockers or what have you... well I'll be tapped by the time I do gears and rear locker cause I will have to have $$ left for tires.

Doing a search about diesel swapping a XJ last week I found an article on someone in Canada who did it to a '93 ZJ... used a 2.8 Isuzu and a AX15 with a custom adapter. Although it did turn out functional, they said it was difficult since that engine was much shorter than the 4.0 it had replaced. I'd love to put together a workable diesel solution for my wife's '01 XJ... she's jealous of my Suburban's MPG, range between fillups and price for fuel. Plus, with home brew bio-diesel being a very inexpensive alternative, I'm itching to have a go at it. Maybe the diesel setup from the Liberty? Now if only there were diesel outboard motors, I'd do my boat as well. So many projects, too little time.
I thought about the Insight when I was looking for a mileage champ. At the time they only had the 2 door. It would have made an OK commuter but I wound up going with the VW Golf TDI. I have a real car with real power. The Honda Insight was just too small and only had room for one passenger. I was thinking it was no big deal because I would just use it for the commute. But now we drive it every where. At 47 to 48 MPG in any kind of driving and at 75MPH on the freeway, it doesn't make sense to drive any of the other cars for daily errands. Plus Diesel is now 20 cents a gallon cheaper up here in WI. Gas is about 1.95 to 2.00/gal and Diesel is $1.75. I really like it so far and it has been trouble free. The hybrids do run cleaner though.

The hybrids may be a bit cleaner in terms of NOx and soot, but when you put your right foot down out on the highway, the TDI delivers like nothing else I've driven - the way that thing can accelerate in top gear is intoxicating.
I imagine you know that backing down to 65-70 would get you over 50mpg, but I'm sure you're having too much fun at 75. I know I am :greensmok

I don't know what Freds is. Is that a TDI site? I figured I could get better MPG at slower speeds but on the freeway I drive to work traffic usually flows at around 70mph minimum. Plus I have my driving schedule to work so dialed in that I get to work every day 5 minutes before start. If I slow down I'd have to leave earlier. :laugh3: I love driving the TDI in the summer when I can have the windows down. I love to here the turbo spool up!

Yeah, sometimes it's easier to go with the flow - even it it costs a point or two on the mpg list. I see the same thing in NJ, only the flow is slower than the posted limit almost as often as it is above posted.
