replacing window

to make a long story short, i locked my keys in the jeep and had to bust a window to get in. i chose the small rear drivers side window. now my question is...how do i go about taking out that window from another jeep? mine is an 01 and theres a 97+ XJ at the junkyard that i could get the window from, but i have no clue how to take them out or install them or anything. so how would i take that out and also install it? is it fairly easy to do? or would i just be better off taking it somewhere to get replaced? and if so how much, if you know, do most places charge for a small window like that. i know this is in mod tech, but i need a fairly quick answer. thanks for any help guys.

As luck would have it, you broke the one of the most expensive peices of glass on the jeep so you're lucky you can get it from the junkyard. I had a glass shop do the work on mine since my insurance covered it. Mine had been broken into by some fawkin theives.

The little window is just bolted into the door. You will need a good set of sockets, some screwdrivers and a TORX bit set. Pull the trim panel, unbolt the glass, remove the TORX screw on the very top of the door frame. Remove the glass and window frame as one piece. It may help to loosen or remove the roll down window for more room to work. Once you get into it you will see it is pretty easy.

that little window is the most expensive window?!? thats retarded. haha. i was trying to break the least expensive one, so i chose the smallest. hopefully i'll be able to snag the one at the JY tomorrow and fix it myself. thanks for the info TimMN.

If you're referring to the small glass in the back seat door, I bought that piece from a junkyard for $30. To move that divider bar that seperates the glass, there is rived under the trim that needs to be "popped". Then just undo the previously mentioned torx.

thanks for the help. and yes thats the window i'm referring to. is it easier to do it with the window rolled up or down...or does it not even matter?

haha the funny part is that the rear side glasses are gasket seals and "pop" out with reasonably little effort

just finished replacing the window. it was really easy. there were only two screws holding the glass in: the torx one at the top and then underneath the trim at the bottom was a small hex head bolt. i pulled the glass from the junkyard and tried putting it back in there for a little practice then came home and it was a breeze. only cost me 16 bucks...so i'm pretty happy. thanks for the help guys.

the rear hatch window pops out so easily its awesome, if i ever lock myself out i can pop it out with 2 flat blade screwdrivers in a few minutes!!!
