Replacement rotor opinions

Ok I need some new rotors and the ones I usually buy from JC Whitney are on clearance and only have the passenger side left in stock. I usually buy the Roto-Tech cross-drilled and slotted rotors which are directional which is why I cannot just buy two passenger side rotors.

They have other options for performance rotors for an XJ and I am having difficulty making a decision on which one.

This is $49.95 for a set of zinc plated dimpled and slotted rotors. Never heard of zinc plated rotors so I am unsure of their performance, life, and reaction to Duralast gold semi pads.

This is $76.99 for each rotor for drilled and slotted rotors with no special coatings. The same company offers just slotted rotors for $64.00 so don't know if the holes really make a big difference.

Anyways I would like to hear which ones yall think is a better buy.

I know that I could get a good set of regular OE style rotors for really cheap and its just a Jeep so why would I bother with performance rotors, but with 33x12.50 KM2s and steel wheels every little bit helps and I did notice that brake fade was completely eliminated with the drilled and slotted rotors which I really liked so I don't mind spending a few extra bucks to get some better stopping performance. This is also my daily driver so all the more reason to spend the extra money and have better braking.

performance rotors EAT brake pads... i autoX bmw's and still run stock rotors... its silly to put slotted rotors on anything other than a racecar unless you really like changing pads every 2 months

Huh interesting I always get about 2 years out of my pads with the slotted rotors. Seems to be about the same pad life that I had with OE style rotors. I bought Duralast gold pads with the lifetime warranty and as long as the pad doesn't completely wear out and the backing plate is left scraping against the rotor, then they replace them for free. Haven't had to pay for pads for the past 3 brake jobs so premature pad wear would only consume my time anyways.

I have EBC rotors on my and my wife,s XJ,s. EBC pads on hers, they stop really well in all weather. I have the PF pads on mine.....not really good cold...but get some heat in them and be ready to go out the windshield....

I heard alot of good things about EBC but that $50 price on those Bolton Premieres are looking better and better. I know often you get what pay for but at that price I could afford to get some half a$$ rotors. The worst that could happen is they don't give me the performance I would like to see from a performance style rotor. The odds are very low of a catastrophic structural failure from a brand new rotor. I am also very mindful of what is going on with my Jeep when I am driving it so I would notice if something seemed wrong.

Anyway I think I have decided to be the guinea pig and try out the $50 rotors. Thanks for all the feedback guys!

Wish me luck! haha

I have a little less than 45K on my rotors and the wear is minimal. I do however consider the (a) rotor a throwaway item. When the pads wear out the rotor is gone (on my stuff). No turning rotors for me......
Normally for the price even the calipers are replaced when its time for a brake job...
