Replace your XJ?

I believe Dr. Moreau put animal parts into his creations, so you'd be limited to parts from AMC Eagles, Mercury Cougars, Dodge Rams, Jaguars....and if we stretch the rule; Ford Taurusi and Lamborghini Panteras.

I'm positive I missed a few, and certain I'll be corrected.
How could you forget the Datsun Honey Bee?

I think building a wilderness expedition vehicle on a M715 chassis would be cool, maybe plop a Cummins turbodiesel under the hood.

A decent DD/weekend warrior would be a 2-door Tahoe/Yukon with the 6.5 turbodiesel, 4L80E & NP241 and an axle upgrade: FF14B in the rear and a Ford HP60 front.

Seems like IFS is the way things have gone on the smaller wagon style SUVs. Say what you want about 'em but everything has it's pros and cons. I'm not talking rock crawling, but the old first generation S-10 I had until last year (I bought it new in '83) did pretty well for itself in the places I took it. Never had any concerns about the front drivetrain not holding up. Did replace outer CV joint boots a couple times but the joints themselves held up fine. Biggest problem for crawlers is they're tough to lift, but they start out a bit higher than a stock XJ.

I do have some standards though. My twin sister just traded her XJ in on a RAV4, and I'm pretty sure I wouldn't do something like that. Someday I may be convinced otherwise, but I just don't think the FWD CAR based utes are strong enough to take off pavement.

I do not like the way the bodies are built on anything new. I like the below beltline STEEL that nobody seems to put around the ends of anything anymore.

I have a friend that used to work for a local Toyota dealership and has driven a number of RAV4's, he said they were more unstable than his old TTB Explorer with bad shocks and bald tires!

I kinda like it. And it's cheap. (18-21K)

Cool! East European kwality and zero parts network. Gotta be a winner.

Seriously though, can you actually buy these things? They've been threatending to sell them in North America for something like a decade now.
