Renix era aw4 question.

OK so I am helping my little brother out because his trans went kaput in his 88 4.0 laredo. I am in San Jose and there are no 4.0 autos (1987-1990) in the pick n pull around here. There are a few 2.5 auto.

After doing some research the 2.5 also uses an Aw4. Now is it possible to pull an aw4 from a 2.5 and swap the Bell housing to mate to the 4.0?

Or..... If you are in the bay area and have a spare trans ....that would be ideal!!!!!

yes. The bellhousing is removable.
It's probably not going to be an AW4 behind the 2.5 though. They weren't all that common.

You can use an HO AW4, but you have to get the t case that came with it. 87-90 AW4s were 21 spline output, HO ones were 23.
IIRC they are the same electrically up to 95.
