Hey, I know that guy! Wonder if Steve has my old beater sitting around still. The hinges were cut on it and they did an excellent job of it.....unlike the rest of the jeep! Steve, if you still have it post pics of the hinges.

suggestions...

dont even fight with trying to get in there and cut the hinge with the door still on the hinge unless youve got the perfect tool, are really good, or are feeling lucky. unbolt it, chop the hinge off, and replace the torx bolts with hex heads. modifying the hinge is damn easy, getting the door to line up 100% is the PITA. the important part is to spend a good bit of time/effort scribing extremely visible lines to all the pieces (hinge, plate, and possibly a shim) so that you can bolt them right back up. itll be closer than a C-hair and should work great. i did this method. also... take care not to mix up top and bottom hinge pieces. youll be kicking yourself. HARD. and guaranteed you wont do it again. dont ask me how i know. :anon:

another thing, leave the pin on the bottom hinge a tad longer than they top. its hard to see down there when you are wrestling the heavy ass door into place. this will let you set it in place and then swing the top into place. it should all drop right in assuming you managed to line it all back up.

lastly, counter sink the top of the hinge and bevel the bottom of the pin. itll help the hinges kind of center themselves when you get them lined up.

i dont know if youve read any of that, but its the little details that i think people over look and lead to them either loving it, or hating it. i did mine recently:

Nope that thing is flatter than a pancake at the waffle house now.

Right on. Thanks. I checked them out deffantly what i was looking for.:yelclap:

Come do my doors when you're done. I got an angle grinder an some cut off wheels ready to go! :D

I am not a huge fan of the doorless look...tube doors...thats where its at.

Of course you aren't stock jeeps look stupid doorless! :D

it won't be worth it and it detracts from the resale value.

Why not? He has already wheeled the piss out of the jeep, cutting the hinges won't kill resale as much as wheeling it will!

I guess if it looks like it fell out of an ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down, why not...

My experience: I've got one that was converted. The electrical acts up, and the doors sag. Due to the door weight, having to deal with the grommets on the door pillar, and the height of the truck, they will most likely never be removed while I own it.

I owned a Wrangler a while back. Taking the doors off was interesting, and nice driving down the HWY. But, I always put the doors on before going wheeling. Perhaps I am getting too old for this recreation as I don't think getting whacked in the face by branches or being caked in mud is any fun ;)

I agree with you there. I'd do it to mine because A.) My doors are manual so all i have in there are 2 wires for the speakers and B.) Its nice riding around town with them off. I would rather wheel with doors too. Also, Its an XJ Ron, the hinges sag no matter what! :D

Well I'm thinking of doing it simply because as soon as I get the new doors from Kim, I have to take them off to replace them anyways... Figured might as well install some trailer style connectors to the wiring as well seeing as the factory harnesses were junk cause they're too short.... Just my input on it...
