Recorder Position (Or "About Me")

So why the Recorder position, and why now?

In a nutshell, I figure that it's about time I get involved in the Club besides my on-line presence, and occasional showings at Club events.

Why vote for me?

I have some experience with Clubs outside of NAXJA.

In 2006, I founded The Mad City Jeep Abusers Group (off-road club), and I was President until this spring. I have since left the Club, which renamed itself “Capitol City 4X4”. Being the President of a small Club, you tend to be involved… a whole bunch.

I was also involved in the Wisconsin 4-Wheel Drive Association as a committee Member and for a short period, Newsletter Editor.

More importantly, I believe I can contribute in a positive way.

Let’s see… the personal stuff (without getting too personal) ;)
I hate typing the letter “I” all the time, so this is going to be basic.
I will be 51 on Saturday, am ‘Single but in a Relationship”, and work full time.
My spare time is usually spent working on or doing “something”. I enjoy the “Outdoors”, which is probably why I enjoy Off-Roading at 5mph or less.

Brian,
I am fortunate enough to own 2 XJs, one which I drive every day.

Rev,

Redbird: I have never been to Redbird as it is almost 6 1/2 hours away. However, I like the idea that the Chapter has adopted trail 21 and the more local Members have a chance to help keep open a valuable resource in their area.

WF: Being involved in another Club as Prez, and focused on that Club's event calendar, I really didn't have much time to spend on Winterfest, but have attended a couple as a NAXJA Member (2005, and 2011). It's a good time, breaks up the Winter, and is an Event Members and non-Members look forward to. It is also a chance to gain Membership.

Chapter Fund Raising: I am not in the loop on that issue. If there is no conflict with National on this, I don't see why the Chapter couldn't have a fund drive or two for a regional cause.

I have a question for all those running for an elected position on the MWC BOD:

With the MWC being one, if not the, most fiscally sound chapters of NAXJA, there is a decent amount of chapter funds that sit idle through the majority of the year. Now granted some of those funds are needed to put deposits in place for Winterfest or prepaying for shirts, hats, stickers, and available for matching funds programs from National, but the remainder of the funds are rarely tapped into. What are your thoughts of using some of those additional funds to "sponsor" a few "mini non-official" events split up across the chapter due to our overall size and locals? These funds could be used to help with food, firewood, minor prizes in the event of a drawing or raffle setting etc.

This was something I struggled with as the President. I wanted to give more back to the Chapter and these funds are the Chapters funds, belonging to the Chapters members....so why not come up with a way to "spread the wealth"?

Please discuss.

As a recorder, what are your thoughts on giving a monthly or bimonthly update on what is going on in the BOD meetings and chapter funds?

Kinda on the same page as tyler, how do you feel about chapter money going to non wheeling events like brewfest/piggig for food donations?

In every organization I have belonged to, BOD minutes (including a quick blip on funds by the Treasurer) is published, for Members, once a month. I suspect we could get a thread in the Members area for this.
As far as PDF, why not HTML? Seems to me that it would be just as simple and completely view-able on any smart device.

I am not for sponsoring events which are not Official Events (with all that entails). The reason is liability.

As far as having more "Official Events", I don't have a problem with that. It would take more local involvement to be sure. Not knowing the finances involved, I don't want to shoot off and guarantee the moon. At first light, it seems like a good idea to get more local involvement in the Club.

I wouldn't worry about anyone hacking the file. It would be uploaded as a post and an attachment. A backup would be kept. I was just pointing out that for portability HTML seemed like a good idea. Whatever format you guys want is OK by me. The minutes could be posted as text, then attach a PDF file for those who want something to reference later.

I guess the idea is that it can be done. The specifics can be worked out easily enough :D
