Recommendation Wanted: Exhaust shop for Downpipe

Hey folks,

Just wanted to request some input from ya'll to see if anyone had any input on getting down pipes to collector made for my exhaust.

Currently swapping in an LS into my jeep and need those done. Only requirement is for mandrel bends and quality work.

Any input is appreciated!!

There's a shop in Santa Fe Springs. Cracker knows of it. I'll try and find my information.

My exhaust isn't mandrel bent, but it twists more than someone's colon. They did some nice magic working around the belly pan and rear axle truss.

Good luck finding an exhaust shop with a mandrel bender. I have been in a number of exhaust shops and have yet to see such a piece of equipment in one.

I have seen exhaust shops with an inventory of mandrel bends however. Those shops could fabricate a mandrel bent pipe for you. Expect to pay more for such a product. It is time consuming. If you can weld you could accomplish the same thing yourself.

I didn't mean to imply that they mandrel bend in-house, just that I don't want crinkle bends. I can fab, but just never done it before and it looks like a giant pain in the ass to do. I just figured I'd get quotes and consider the time vs cost vs quality of work ratio between having a shop do it and me doing it in-house.

Cracker recommended Mike's Muffler on Garvey in El Monte when I needed some repair work done. They did a fine job for me, but no tube bending was involved. I have no idea if they have a mandrel bender.

It was Mike's as Nimrod and cracker said. El Monte, Santa Fe Springs, it's all LA.

The bends they did on mine were certainly not mandrel, but they weren't really too bad.

First time, maybe at Scotty's? On Lower Azusa?

Second time was at Mike's. He did the very clean work of adding the cat, and routing to tail pipe to the rear, rather than dumping in front of the axle. Another friend also recommended him.

GREAT Mexican restaurant on Durfee, about a mile south of Mike's. Went there for lunch while waiting for my time slot; went back to get dinner to take home.

I called him and confirmed that he does fab mandrel exhaust and has pretty fair prices. I am taking my rig up to him probably next week and i'll report out if anyone is interested.

Can you please elaborate? I am not sure I understand your point here.

Equal (or close to it) tube lengths and firing order in the collector (not likely to be an issue with an inline six--most designs are tri-Y) are more important factors.

There are a number of header designs that include dented pipes for clearance. Some are dents for spark plug access, others for external accessories/steering/chassis etc.

Now if you get up to Top Fuel it is another matter entirely. I think those guys measure the total volume of each tube in their Zoomies with a graduated cylinder or burette. They are not going to go for any extra dents in those tubes. But that is another ballgame.
