rear tow point

Well took off my rear hitch and haven't got a new rear bumper yet so I decided to make one myself.

It mounts to the holes predrilled to accept the hitch. I'm putting it on the drivers side frame since the exhaust takes the other side.

Any opinions? Ideas??

It is a good idea to use angle iron or u channel as a nut strip on the inside of the frame to give it strength in side pulls,but the bracket looks solid though.

My hitch kept getting hung up too, so I flipped it, and now I have a great tow poin and a sweet bumper.

I wouldn't trust them for side pulls. But thats just me.

the hole is too sloppy (too big, and not perfectly cut). plus, it only looks like .25" steel....and the hole is very close to the edge...you will probably be risking tear out. The MINIMUM rule of thumb is 1/2 the diameter of the hole away from the edge...but with the ammount of impact you'll be putting on it...it should be at least a full diameter away with the .25".

hey, btw. i crashed my junk on the trails in texas. got a bunch of pics and might be getting some video of the recovery. bound to happen sooner or later. whole drivers side has damage somewhere or another. those arb's work great and when im on my side i can check my airlines easier. pm and ill give ya the details.

I think that if you yanked someone hard enough, it would break at this point. I have a similar mount. That is where mine broke. I was trying to pull a durango out of a mud pit. The metal was 1/4" thick and it still snaped like a twig. If you plan on using this mount, you should think twice about getting on the gas while trying to pull or get pulled. Of course, the metal that I was using was hot rolled and the mechanical properties wern't that great. I have no idea what kind of metal you have there.
Just a thought.

It's going to be hard getting the nuts started when they're loose like that. I would suggest you make a nut strip that holds the nuts inside the frame which will also give you more surface area in contact between the sandwich.
