rear tow point

Well took off my rear hitch and haven't got a new rear bumper yet so I decided to make one myself.

It mounts to the holes predrilled to accept the hitch. I'm putting it on the drivers side frame since the exhaust takes the other side.

Any opinions? Ideas??

why would you take off the rear hitch?

It is a good idea to use angle iron or u channel as a nut strip on the inside of the frame to give it strength in side pulls, but the bracket looks solid though.

My hitch kept getting hung up too, so I flipped it, and now I have a great tow poin and a sweet bumper.

PM me for pics.

hmm i really like this idea.. how much would you charge for a set of 2?

i personally hate hitches..

I wouldn't trust them for side pulls. But thats just me.

set up a photobucket account and then link <img>- don't have to be a member.

also, Did your hitch use 4 bolts on each side or 5?

I think 5 on each side.

the hole is too sloppy (too big, and not perfectly cut). plus, it only looks like .25" steel....and the hole is very close to the edge...you will probably be risking tear out. The MINIMUM rule of thumb is 1/2 the diameter of the hole away from the edge...but with the ammount of impact you'll be putting on it...it should be at least a full diameter away with the .25".

I think I might have it, the hi lift and tire are no longer on top.

wyn...always the faberamakator. very cool for those that are on a budget and have the materials and know how. nice and very bling bling. lol. you do that at work or on the beach in bermuda? i know you were thinking about your jeep the whole time. just admit it, you were thinking about fabing stuff. admission is one of the 12 steps.

jp

hey, btw. i crashed my junk on the trails in texas. got a bunch of pics and might be getting some video of the recovery. bound to happen sooner or later. whole drivers side has damage somewhere or another. those arb's work great and when im on my side i can check my airlines easier. pm and ill give ya the details.

I've decided that this is only temporary till I get a new rear bumper.

Don't think I'll go into production anytime soon...

Yea JPX3 Fabbed it up with raw materials straight from bermuda... Shoulda seen the look on the Immigrations guys face when he X-rayed my luggage!! *LMAO*

I think that if you yanked someone hard enough, it would break at this point. I have a similar mount. That is where mine broke. I was trying to pull a durango out of a mud pit. The metal was 1/4" thick and it still snaped like a twig. If you plan on using this mount, you should think twice about getting on the gas while trying to pull or get pulled. Of course, the metal that I was using was hot rolled and the mechanical properties wern't that great. I have no idea what kind of metal you have there.
Just a thought.
