Rear Sway Bar???

So here's the deal I have been told by many to remove the rear sway bar. So when I got home yesterday "almost dark out" I slid under the rear of the Jeep and was checking it out. Unless I'm just completely blind, I didn't see a sway bar under there. What does it look like? I kinda feel like a dumb a$$ cause I know what a sway bar looks likes, lol. LMK what I'm suppose to look for or what it looks like please.

I've heard that some do not have them, but if you do it attaches to short posts held down by the U-bolts on top of the leafs. It's a thin (maybe 1/2") curvy bar. If nothing attaches there you don't have one.

edit: Oh yeah, sorry I'm not really SEC right now, just saw it in the new posts

Look in picture 6, your front sway bar is still attached. That bar does way more than the back did. If you're not comfortable driving without one, you can just remove the links while wheeling and tie up the bar. Quick disconnects make this easier, but attaching/detaching is not that hard with the stock bolts on links.

Yeah, if you did not put on an SYE yourself you don't have one, They're not too bad, but unless you get binding or vibrations from the driveline, excesive U-joint wear, etc don't worry about it. Just take your time and save up for one, they run about $200 but if you have a shop install it it'll cost a good bit.

yeah they removed the rear sway which i dont notice a difference driving at all. then i didnt have anything handy to tie up the disco's. so you think once the disco's are undone i will get more flex in the rear? casue i kinda dumbed about the flex in the back

Your front sway doesn't affect your rear flex.

x2 on the breaking in, and no you won't get more flex in the rear, but your front is only moving a few inches.

Picture of mine - you can see the difference in flex between front and rear, rear only flexes about 6 inches (that spare on the back tire is an inch smaller too, so it's even less than it looks)

If they are new leaf packs, they are gonna be a little bit stiff until they wear in.

You think they are that stiff though? I'm going to look tomorrow to see if my neighbors' XJ still has the rear sway to take pictures and be certain. Kinda a funny thing, anyone who is convincing a new guy to remove the rear sway has no pictures to help... because that chit is way gone!

Thats crappy that they removed your rear and didn't even tell you. I know its not a huge deal, but its not there vehicle to make the decision on, its yours.

i checked again to make sure this morning and absolutely no sway bar under there, i just dont understand why there is not more flex i have 300 miles already on the kit. how long does it take for them to break in if ever?

I'm gonna say its gonna take a lot more than 300 miles on it once you get it out on the trail a few times and give all the springs a good work out you should start to see some more flex!

What springs are you running? My RE 4.5 springs took about 5k and several wheelin trips to get loose and ride good, They are just right now!

Thanks! I could make it flex better but I have the the thing bump stopped to hell and back! My kit is the RE 4.5 SF, I ditched the lca's and track bar and I have added; Front; ACOS, JKS JJ LCA's, Rokmen JJ UCA's, Currie JJ track bar, OME nitrocharger shocks and RE drop brackets. Rear; Shackle relocation brackets, TeraFlex 1.5 shackles, OME nitrocharger shocks.

I have the rear bump stops set so that the rear springs won't go completely flat, I carry a lot of weight and do not want to invert the springs. I'm running "home made" adjustable DPG style bump stops.

In the front I have 3 hockey pucks and one RE bump stop spacer per side along with the bump stop on the ACOS adjusters.

I rely more on droop than I do compression.

My RE Springs also took a good while to loosen up...but they're great now! Just give it time......wheel it more and help them out! :)

As for the rear sway bar, RE states in their instructions to get rid of it when installing one of their lifts....that's why 4WP got rid of it.

I'm running the Rusty's 4.5" w/new spring packs and they flex great. So much so, that I'm having to install the extended bump stops to keep the tire off the fender.

I've been running this package for a couple of years and I can't see flex difference from new til now.

Also not running the rear sway bar. Use the disconnects for the front though!

Yeah, but if you don't have a grinder, getting that lower bolt out is a MPITA.

Any way to get it out w/o grinding? I tried pounding on it with a hammer, but to no avail.
