Rear springs

I was just wanting to know what Sierra members are using for rear leaf springs I was reading on the tech forum and some of the people are saying they have had problems with Rubicon express rear springs sagging in a short amount of time. I only ask because I am in need of some new rear springs
I am looking for a 4.5 inch rear spring

Went with the Dakar soft ride... but just ordered an additional leaf to make them the firm ride and get more lift. 3-1/2 inches, but use an extended shackle as well.

Yeah I have that same spring with a 1.5 inch shakel I am 2 inches to short right around there

My RE3.5 springs have not sagged much if at all after 3 years. The RE3.5" springs and a 1.75" shackle lift have me right around 5.5" of lift in the rear.

Yeah I want to do the 4.5 inch spring with my 1.75 shackle should make the rear slightly higher. I was readling in the tech forum and a couple people where saying they had sagging issues and they wouldnt warrenty the springs

i have some really old rustys 3.5s with 2 or 3 extra stock leaves in them. they are super soft.
and a 3/4"-1" lift shackle.
id say throw some leaves in your packs ad call it good. maybe the top two off a stock pack would be good

Yeah Jimbos07 said he used s-10 springs and got around 4 inches with his stock main and 3 leaves outta the s-10 pack. which I wouldnt be opposed to. If I could do that in one shot time is a limiting factor at this point.

I am running the Deaver G9's with a set of RE 2705 boomerang shackles. I am
happy with the ride on & off road.

I did the same and got 4 inches (no overload spring)- I added 2 inch boomerang shackles and a 1" block and the ride is super smooth and very flexy. netted 7" total

I have RE 3.5 leafs with the RE straight shackle. It takes some weight, 100lbs or so to soften them up but that is just normal gear weight. 3 years no noticeable sagging.

I believe boomerang shackle would help smooth it out but I don't think its that bad.

Also take in consideration what you have back there. Do you carry a lot of recovery gear and spare parts? rear bumper? tire carrier?

Yeah i will be towing a quad trailer now and then thats why I was thinking i should go with a 4.5 spring and continue using my longer 1.75 shackel. My front springs are 5.5 rubicon zj spring I wouldnt mind if the back was just a little bit higher so when I added weight i would have a little extra sagging room.

Try Clayton's Leafs. Rob D runs them, they are stiff and don't sag at all I'm thinking of getting a set when I add the spare tire. If you plan on towing, a stiffer spring is a great idea.

Right now I am running RE 4.5" with the standard 1.25 shackle. No sagging but I can feel them soften when I am loaded.

A good friend of mine from BCS Fabrication runs Chevy halfton springs in his. He loves the ride, and has no problem with sag or weight. Its going to be my next mod when I go to 5.5. I am running RE 3.5, they are ruined after hualing wood in my rig a couple of winters ago.

I researched the Claytons and found that the two sizes of leaf springs available for the XJ are 4.5" and 6.5". Clayton only buys the 8 leaf (6.5"), leaf springs from Otto-Max. If you want a 4.5" spring, they remove one leaf in house. The prices are the same. For me I will buy the 6.5" and play around with the install to see if I want the leaf in or out.

Fullsizexj (site vender) quoted me a great price and plan on ordering next week.

I have a set of Big Off Road 6" leaf springs, they gave me almost 7" of lift. After 5 years of running them, they haven't sagged one bit. They are a bit stiff and don't flex all that well either. YMMV.

If I use s-10 springs can they be 2wd or do I need to use 4wd springs

Currently, my rears are from a big pile of leaves I have sitting around.
They were from a rusty set of 2" lift springs from a 66 Bronco, the saggy stock leaves on my 89, and some bits of Dakota springs tossed in.

It net me somewhere around 3.5" and I have enough other bits to further tune it as patience allows.

Rides like crap, but settled quite nicely after tossing a bunch of cinder blocks in the back on more than one occasion.

Just added the Mains off of a dodge dakota to my Rustys 4.5" leafs after my main had bent on those. Rides good but I had to build new shackle boxes for it.
