Rear locker options poll.....

Rich, do some looking before you going buying that front axle. It really isn't all that hot of a setup. There are much better options for similar money.

As for the rear traction aid, I can't comment to much I'm spooled. :looney: I'd put that true trac in the street queen '01 and get the detroit for the '98.
Are you set on keeping that 8.25? That truss work you have wouldn't be all that hard to transplant over.

Been considering that, Bill. The TrueTrac's done right by me for a long time now, and since ive gone the place I have with that and an open front, I thought about just swapping that over and even truetrac'ing the front and calling it done...But....since the 98's gonna be down for a long while, that 01's gonna be no true street queen..youll see her at NacFest...

As to keeping the 8.25? Hell no, I'm scrapping it for spare parts for the 01...the 98's getting Spider9's if all goes according to plan. (among other things..I'm 1/2 way thru your build thread, sketches are forming, and the back half of the 98 is already lopped off....)

how much for that true trac haha. i think you guys convinced me on a detroit as well. where the heck can i find one for a good price :/

Rich I'm running an Eaton up front & a Powertrax in the 8.25. I drove the XJ all last winter & you know what that was like. The Ptx works so well I rarely turn the Eaton on, even offroad. For a while last year the Powertrax was making some loud noises, unloading & throwing the XJ off to the side, but somehow that has stopped.

Why did you say no selectable for the rear? My hope is to put an OX in mine one day. I have a thing for selectables. An Auburn Gear would be ideal for me with the LSD, but my track record with them hasn't been too good - went thru 3 in less than 2 years.

When are you gonna build me a front bumper??? :D

All due respect, but I've known you long enough, and heard you complaing about that ECTED since it was put in..that may be because of who installed it, but that aside, i want nothing to do with a locker with clutch packs that need friction modifiers added to the gear oil just to keep it working right....as to the selectable in the rear, well, you are running an 8.8, ...more options than me using the 8.25.

...now leaning toward TruTracs front and rear, and seeing "where that can get me"....heehee...

...as to the front bumper...you dont like tube bumpers, and building one fully from angled plate is seriously time and labor intesive......give me an idea what you really want and I can give you a realistic price and timeframe.

just an fyi I wont ever diss the trutrac..that thing has seen me through many serious trail runs, rock and mud, no failure, no issue....I bought it after reading a magazine comparo that stated that the trutrac gave you 90% of the traction of a full detroit locker with 0% of the compromise...and I agree with that. The thing works way better than it's reputation, with 100% reliability and "set it, forget it"....pushed me thru rough blacks and some red obstacles with an open front with no issues...actually, for the mudders, I would say it's perfect......

I got rid of the ECTED (Auburn Gear) a while back (last year) Rich. After they sent me a third one I got tired of paying for installation (FWIW, it was the fault of the locker. But Auburn Gear stood behind their product & they fully honored their warranty). I'm running an Eaton up front now & I'm sure you said in your first post that you're considering an Eaton. It works flawlessly.

I don't have an 8.8 ... yet. I know there's no OX available for our 8.25, but I can dream ... or swap :laugh3:.

(About the bumper ... I was sorta kidding, but if you wanna give it a shot, I'll call you or email. Don't wanna hijack your thread.)

Hey All!!

Well, I just did a bunch of work to my XJ and I put PowerTraxx F & R Lockers which are awesome so far.

Ah, wasnt aware you swapped to the Eaton...good to know. I may just swap over the TrueTrac to the 01 and slap an Eaton on the front, at least thats seems where it's headed at this point. Im just waiting til I get the 4.56's for the front so I can do it all at once...
