I have a 1990 4.0 auto with AC. Whenever I went to use the AC, it would never really blow cold air. Sort of cool, but nothing like it should be. I figured it just needed a recharge... Then whenever I went to use the AC, it would immediately blow a fuse. I unplugged the clutch fan switch, and it stopped blowing the fuses.
I had planned to get it drained and recharged with Duracool, so I made an appointment with my usual mechanic. I told them about the fuses blowing, and wanted them to find the short and fix that as well.
I haven't turned the AC on for about a week and a half (no reason since it would only blow fuses, plus the fan switch was unplugged so no cold air would blow).
I just got a phone call from the mechanic. They said that my AC has absolutely no signs of leakage, has great pressure, and is charged as full as it was from when it left the factory. Not only this, but it would no longer blow any fuses. They tried a bunch of stuff, but they said it worked like a champ 100% of the time, and blew at air 40 degrees.
I really don't get this, because even when it did work, it didn't blow very cold air (even on not-so-hot days). Now it suddenly does?
Intermittent short??? Any guesses as to where/what it would be? My ignition switch was replaced last night. Would that have anything to do with it no longer blowing fuses?
