In all honesty though I move turtles off of the road when I see them in the spring. Not too many left around here.

go ahead and touch that guy without welding gloves or other armament. I just kinda tried to coerce him out of the parking lot. Kept the kids away till he mosied on back to the lake. This was near my Apartment at Lake Johnson in Raleigh during college. Bit my boot while I was messing with him, took a hunk of rubber of. Sucker strikes hard.
Had to remind the kids that showed up that Snapping turtles that size do not bite things, they remove them.
ive handled a few snappers...grab their tail as close to the end as you can, i still reccomend gloves just in case but ive had great success with that method

yea, I believe the one I found is what is called an alligator snapping turtle.
another thing to keep in mind for those that do not know, is that being behind him or grabbing the back of his shell does not make you safe. Snapping turtles can at the least bit to the top of their shell, and some of them can bite their own ass.
