OK As seen in Jp Magazine ragtop is for sale :) This thing is great but I'm cutting the top off the XJ so it needs a new home. Manufacturer lists new one for $800, this one is in great condition..$300 obo to a Naxja member.

How Freaking Cool is that. I am moving to a place that can get 100+ inchs a year or it would be mine. Good luck on your sale, shouldn't take long.

half of me wants to make fun of you for putting a huge hole is something thats already fragile and will fold like a taco....

the other half of me see's your roll cage, and wants to buy this because its kinda neat!

Id rock it.

yes, taco-problem would be my concern as well...did you drive it with the top gone and no roll cage? I've got a TNT skid plate but I don't know if it will compensate for the missing material...

well technically speaking, there is no complete support in the roof. its all in the Pillers.. so a gaping hole probably does not really matter.

It already had both when I got it from Tony. He might be able to answer the question but I think I would add a cage or at least a hoop or two for a little insurance.

I think I'll offer both the cage and the top together so no one has to worry about it :) Is $500 for both reasonable? The cage would have to be sleeved and welded back together as I will cut it out in two or three big sections.

Hey guys, no offense here but when I added the ragtop, the roof of the jeep felt more solid than it did without it.

Here is why, this thing has an l shaped aluminum cage (When i say cage, I mean the ragtop surround piece) that sinks in to the opening you cut in the roof. It actually fealt to me like it added rigidity........

that being said, you should eventually think about doing a cage.. but I think you could get away with having this in your Jeep without.

One other thing, for $500, your getting a steal from Chris for the cage and the ragtop!!

Thanks Tony for jumping in. That's interesting to hear...but after looking at it again I see what you are saying...and I noticed that there really isn't that much bracing in the roof to start with.

As far as the price....just trying to pay it forward...I've gotten some good deals and a lot of help from this group, just trying to give it to a good home :)

Also just a heads up to everyone thinking about the package deal...I won't have the cage out for another two weeks or so. Out of town this weekend and then have to help a buddy get his mustang ready for a show...but as soon as I get it out I'll get some pics up. I'll also sell just the cage too but I want to get it out first so everyone knows what they are getting into....taking it out in a few pieces that can be put back in is all theoretical so far :confused1

Thanks again,

Chris

i should have never bought my cage and chopped my top.. i would have picked that up right away

The roof of the XJ has little to do with the strength of the body. It's even glued on! As others have said, its all in the pillars....

On another note, when I cut off my roof (and pillars) the body at the bottom of the rear doors started to crack almost immediately. I was only towing it to the cage shop and the body shop. It really would have folded like a taco if I had wheeled it at all. Scary.
With the cage its super stiff. Nothing flexes in the body anymore.

I put the rollcage pictures back on the new server:
