Quran, Koran, Muslim book burning in FL

http://www.cnn.com/2010/WORLD/europe/09/09/florida.quran.reactions/

A hard-line Indonesian Muslim group, the Islamic Defenders Front, told CNN it will protest the planned burning and will issue a death sentence on Rev. Terry Jones if he carries out his plan. "This is not a problem between Muslims and Christians but rather between Terry Jones and mankind," said Sabri Lubis, a secretary general with the group.

A death sentence is a bit far but at least this group of hard liners are blaming the right guy.

Seems like all the usual suspects are calling for all the usual retribution. The sane, logical Muslims are saying "you are an idiot and should probably not do that, you're screwing up inter-faith harmony and probably bringing a world of hurt on yourselves from all the nutbags on our side..." while the hardliners are saying "we gonna kill your ass" and the nutbags are just going DEATH TO CHRISTIANS, DEATH TO THE WEST as usual.

Sadly this stupidity is protected by the first amendment.

I almost hope they burn American flags in protest, it would do a great job of highlighting the hypocrisy of everyone involved.
The major difference being that the flag is a symbol for our nation whereas the Koran isa symbol of their religion.

We should have elected you President. Your Hopes come through Read here
My Changes, not so much though.

I'm not fit for the Presidency, I have a functioning brain and little tolerance for bullshit and politics/corruption.

Darky - both are symbols, in my opinion. As a non religious person the flag means more to me than the Bible or Koran, it stands for rules and principles that keep 300 million people free, and more than that, sparked revolutions in colonies around the world when we succeeded in breaking away from Britain.

Right, but what I'm getting at is this war isn't necessarily America vs Muslims. We have Muslims in our military actively fighting the war on terror. To these extreme Muslims, the Koran means about eleventy billion times more to them than the flag to you.

Side note, on the news last night they interviewed a lawyer who said that this guy does have the Constitutional right to do this. Duh, we knew that already. They also interviewed a Rabbi who was on the side of the Muslims (apparently he doesn't understand history or even current events) and compared this lone whack job to the Spanish Inquisition, "In the Spanish Inquisition, books were burned and then people were burned.", and then made a comparison to Hitler. Dude had no clue what he was talking about or at least had no sense of scale or history.

No it's not, that's what the Taliban has been trying to sell.
We will be in a bad way if the Muslim people buy it.

Should we cave in to the extremists and remove the First Amendment to appease them? Of course that's not what you said, but in effect that's what has to happen if you asked the hard-liners. Yeah Terry Jones is a brainless nut job, but within his rights. In America at least..
I understand your view regarding the dangers facing American troops, I served during the first Middle East go around. Maybe we need to re-evaluate our role as 'peace keepers'. I know I didn't join to become a police force for domestic issues in foreign $hit holes.

The true test of our freedoms are when we must defend the words or actions of those we disagree with. Me, 2010

This:
The American President: 1995
America isn't easy. America is advanced citizenship. You've gotta want it bad, 'cause it's gonna put up a fight. It's gonna say, "You want free speech? Let's see you acknowledge a man whose words make your blood boil, who's standing center stage and advocating at the top of his lungs that which you would spend a lifetime opposing at the top of yours." You want to claim this land as the land of the free? Then the symbol of your country cannot just be a flag. The symbol also has to be one of its citizens exercising his right to burn that flag in protest. Now show me that, defend that, celebrate that in your classrooms.
Then you can stand up and sing about the land of the free.

Wrong.

It IS a religious war, same as the Muslims killing Jews and the Jews killing Muslims--religion. Religious hatred, just that plain and simple.

No, not all Muslims are willing to pick up arms and kill people just because of their religion. Same for Jews. Same for Christians. Same for Hindus. But there are always SOME that will. Hell, in Northern Ireland its Catholic Christians killing Protestant Christians--religion.

In Ireland the issue is not religion, it is political. You have an occupying force that is English and Prodistant. They look like everyone else, and after a generation, talk like everyone else; but they are the occupation. How else to tell who are the bad guys? By where they worship. You don't have that issue anywhere else than Northern Ireland.

Then let him speak and charge him with man slaughter for every soldier that dies because of his idiocy.

Not quite:

"Ulster was part of Catholic Ireland until the reign of Elizabeth I (1558–1603) when, after suppressing three Irish rebellions, the Crown confiscated lands in Ireland and settled the Scots Presbyterians in Ulster. Another rebellion in 1641–1651, brutally crushed by Oliver Cromwell, resulted in the settlement of Anglican Englishmen in Ulster. Subsequent political policy favoring Protestants and disadvantaging Catholics encouraged further Protestant settlement in Northern Ireland."

All religious.

Sunni and Shia Muslims killing each other for fun and profit--religion. Same language, same RELIGION, but killing each other for religious beliefs.

Burma has been fighting a 58-year civil war--religion.

A friend of mine just started his own business,
making land mines that look like prayer mats.
It’s doing really well.

He says Prophets are going through the roof.

While I agree with you, he is within his rights. I think he's an idiot and that his actions are ill-advised, but can't really do anything about it. He's like the Westboro Baptist congregation protesting at the funerals of dead soldiers: reprehensible, ignorant, no thoughts towards the consequences of his actions, but within his rights.

They do think about the consequences... they want them. They are simply trolling for attention and trouble. Unfortunately, people give it to them - if it weren't for that, this chucklehead and the westboro baptist church would have zero publicity.

The difference is this a-hole will cause the loss of life with the stupidity he spreads.

While the westboro a-hole is just a stupid a-hole causing emotional pain.

Extremists are gonna want to attack our soldiers and kill Americans and Jews no matter how many Korans we don't burn. How many people publicly burned Korans before 9/11? How many of our guys have been killed compared to how many Korans have been burned?

Jihad will not end because we didn't burn a Koran.

You're right EXTREMISTS will I never said they wouldn't

That doesn't mean we need to add to their recruiting material.

How about we keep it as EXTREMISTS and not every Muslim.

That's the thing though, I don't think that your average Muslim will rise up as a result of this. I think it'll still be the extremists who react that way.

This would be much more effective than burning Qurans.
would also save our soldiers instead of getting them killed.
