Quit smokin!!!

lol I hate smoking because I can't stop. I quit for long times (a week) then I'll buy a pack, finish it and be okay and quit for another week.

i used to be the same way, now a pack lasts me about 2 weeks... unless im out drinking. i dont smoke at home or at work, so that helps me i think.

I had orgy nightmares. It was the worst - Had hot chicks all over me, but I keep trying to push them off cause I was married. I hated those dreams. And I always felt like puke a while after taking the pill.

But it did work, supposedly the drug sucidal thoughts are now being linked to that drug as well... I know I started feeling like a very mean person. I was happy when I got off them, and havent smoked since.

It works miracles if you stick it through.

I get strange dreams on the stuff. Orgy dreams are a bad thing? I've thought about watching a few hours of adult films before I go to bed because I'm curious about what kind of dream I will have. But like I said, I have "STRANGE" dreams on the Chantix. So i'm kind of afraid to try it. Plus, I dont think I would be able to make it through a few hours of smut films.

One week today... Got the book yesterday and read half of it last night. It is decent has some good theories. Really got me thinking of some of the mistakes I made the prior times i tried to quit and I think it will be helpful in being a non-smoker.

Chantix?

You do know the goverment just put that on the list of drug that professional drivers cannot use.

Have your wife keep an eye on you.

Rev

Thanks for the concern where is the list.

Nah Chantix mainly curves the lil nicotine monsters (that roar about every 30 minutes of a normal smokers life) basically go away. They come by a visit still everynow and then but it is alot easier to shoo them off.

Here's the FAA link: http://www.faa.gov/news/updates/?newsId=56363

Supposed, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration is doing the same thing. Google searchs for "chantix driver's" comes up with a bunch of news hits, but no links to a government website.

Thanks for the link I can understand the pilot issue. They should have strict rules as this medication will cause sleep disorders and it is very important a pilot be rested. As for psychiatric i see no real danger in taking it but i am only one person not a group of 1000. So On my account this drug is perfectly safe.:lecture:

On the subject...

I ran out of cigarettes on Thursday... Haven't gotten around to buying a new pack yet ;)

None of that drug or patch business for me, just good old fashioned stubbornness ;) I was actually quite surprised that the "needs" pretty much went to nothing on the second day, the only desire left is in my head and easy to resist.

The strangest part about the whole thing is not having a lighter in my left hand pocket! Pocket inventory is always such an important issue!

You must be a light smoker. When I smoke if I even thought i would run out I would buy a couple of packs. I would not go to work without atleast a pack of smokes. When i got home from work i would have to have atleast a half a pack for that night and in the morning. I smoked 30-40 cigarettes a day. I almost didnt do anything before smoking a cigarette. That was just me though I hated the cigarette withdrawal and kept feeding it.

I was light, but I'm also very, very stubborn when I want to be :D

Really it came down to a few tricks.

1: I wanted to quit for three good reasons. (Health, cost, kid coming along)
2: When I was in the heavy nic-fit time I had an unlit cigarette I mimed smoking with (really calms the craving a lot).
3: Keep yourself busy! One thing I did that helped a lot was to exercise when I was feeling the need, punish yourself for desire just like Monks!

Well I have made it too 4 weeks there are times that I still get cravings for nicotine. I stopped taking the pills a week ago and the cravings increase about 3 days after stopping but they were more managgeable and i had already kinda killed the habit of smoking every 30 minutes or so.

Is alot easier. That book dude was talking about does work great along with the chantix.

Anyone else ready to try...

Ironicly (sp) I just stepped outside to smoke and told myself I need to quit then I walk back into my office and BAM here is this post, So I am taking it as a sign and quiting. I started smoking when I was 11 and am now 28 so I got some years on me, However I did quit for a little over a year whil I lived in Los Angeles (way to expensive and no where to smoke) but shortly after moving back to TN I started smoking again probably due to divorce but anyways I have talked about qiuting for a while now and my kids stay on my arse about it so mark this day on the calender cause I am done ( i hope). The first time I quit It was just about cold turkey, I bought a pack of camel non filters and hated smoking them so much that by the end of the pack 5 days later I was done. Food and tasted diffrent, the beer I was drinking tasted bad and my wife's cat stunk haha. But all in all I know i can do it I just have to stay away from the bars and beer tell i am fully quit again

Good luck, someday I will join you and dump chew.

Yep, same here. Never a smoker, but been dipping (mostly) off and on since high school. Not too heavy, maybe a can every 5-7 days depending. It's become a bit of a bother the last year or two, I'm just about ready to quit. I'll be quitting in the fall, on my 40th birthday to be exact. An overdue birthday present to myself.

Well that book that was mention way back when is great and only like 15 bucks through amazon gives you some great ideas when quitting and makes you think about quitting in a different way. Congrats on your choice hope you make it. It is a very tough road even with Chantix and the Book.

Challenged one of my co-workers to quit smoking a few years ago and told him that I would supply him with as many bags of Lifesavers that it took to wean him off, as a replacement for the associated oral fixation (what do I know........)
So, a few weeks go by and he's losing the cravings for a smoke but cannot resist his craving for Lifesavers, or as we now call them....."Crack-O's". I was buying him a large bag every week.....I told him to suck on them, not crunch them down like breakfast cereal!

Over time, this eventually tapered off and he's maintaining a more healthy lifestyle of biking, strength training and when the urge hits, Crack-O's.

I can tell when he's stressed because he crunched them down, but its' still better for him than pounding 1.5 packs of Camels a day.....plus he stopped dipping too.

Good luck
