Quick filter housing o-ring question

Do I have to drain my oil to change the o-ring in the filter housing or is the level below that and won't drown me if I take the filter off?

Might as well just change the oil while your there...

Just put a pan under your engine. Some oil will drain off the filter. You won't drown. (unless your engine is running).
