I have RE 4.5 inch coils, anyone know the spring rate on those? I think it is 200 lbs but I am not sure. I am looking for something stiffer on the cheap if anyone has suggestions.

Are the taller coils any stiffer or just taller? We are trying to keep the front end off the bumpstops in the desert.

-Alex

What are you running for shocks in the front? If you're going through whoops, in an XJ, the bumps are what helps you stay up on top. Mine used to bury itself into the whoops until I hit the bumps. This isn't good persay, but it's how they seem to work. Joel over at Bilstein is playing and perfecting a new shock design for the front of these things, to keep it from doing this.

Fox 2.0 Remote Resi shocks and a set of the teraflex speedbumps. Remember that my XJ is probably alot heavier then the pre-runner types up front because of my winch bumper and winch.

Since you mentioned cheap ProComp springs are 230 in/lb spring rate but they are only a 3" spring.

I know one jeepspeed car that swears by their R/E7.5"s cut down. re1358 THEY SELL FOR $150.

The taller RE coils wont give me an stiffer spring rate will they? Deaver springs are over $300, that's not happening.

-Alex

Maybe I will play with valving and add more nitro to the shocks, that will stiffen them up right?

-Alex

Ah alright, well the front end needs a redesign (nothing clears right with the 44 up there) and it needs new coil. Plan B is to drastically lighten the front end.

-Alex

Take the winch bumper and winch off, then see how it does.. those fox 2.0's might not be valved correctly for the weight up front.

If your going fast you wont get stuck anyways!!:rtm::spin1:

If we didn't sell winch rope and everything else to go along with it I would, but we also use my rig for recovery gear demos and recovery down at KOH and other events.

When you cut a coil it in turn makes it stiffer. That's why people are saying to buy a taller coil and cut it. But personally I would try shock tuning first.:patriot:

if it gets worse as you go through your run you could be experiencing shock fade as well. as the oil heats up it thins out and you the don't work as well. I would think with all the weight of a winch bumper and winch, plus the weight of a 44 up front yanking down on them, 2.0 shocks are going to get very hot very quick while you're hauling ass.

those coils are way too soft, you'd need a lot of valving to make up for the lack of spring rate your dealing with... You might need a 300lb if you wanna pre-run with a winch bumper and winch. I'd start with a stiffer coil then begin the valving process.

I say get a taller coil and cut it down..I'd do a 8" skyjacker and cut it down until the desired lift is achieved. When you cut a coil down the spring rate goes up..and then I would get those shocks rebuild with 360/80 valving..

If your just cooking your shocks, you may want to look for a set of 2.5's...

You can also cut down the springs you have and use spacers to keep the same height. Not sure how much rate you'll gain but the formula's out there.
