Question about upper vs. lower control arm mounts

OEM XJ mounts:

the LCA is a 2.625 (2 5/8") mounting width, 9/16" bolt

the UCA is a 2" mounting width with a 10mm bolt.

which, interestingly enough, is the EXACT same size of the Rubicon Express joints... the 'Large' superflex joint fits the lowers, and the 'small' superflex joint fits the uppers.

the OEM frame side UCA mounts are VERY weak, and any type of 'hard' joint suspention should be installed with significant re-enforcement to the mount or with an entirely new mount.

I've ripped the OEM UCA mount off the frame...

what joints do you plan to run?

i just ordered some of the forged 1.25, 5/8ths chromoly ballistic joints / bushings... price is pretty good, $28 for the bushings, $46 for the joints.

of course 'someday' i'll upgrade to the billets =)

Awesome, thanks for the info, I'm running drop brackets so my upper joints are good to go.

Same, I'm looking at right around $265 plus shipping for everything I need besides tubing, which isn't bad.

Ive heard bad things about the Ballistic joints, like the threads in the housing being screwed up on ALOT of them, but seems hit and miss, FWIW.

Got this PM from Billy.

Hey Eli,

Just a heads up, I ended up with 3 out of 5 bad joints straight from Ballistic. The adjuster ring wouldn't thread into the housing (it was the housing, not the ring). Ballistic replaced them, but it took weeks and they wanted me to pay for shipping the old crappy ones back (and wouldn't give me a credit when they got there and saw they were bad). I offered to send a video of me destroying them instead and they quit pushing the issue. Then the plastic inserts were too big (2 of them) and they never sent the set screws. All in all it took them about 4 1/2 weeks to get me the parts that I ordered, working and complete. I totally regretted not spending a few extra bucks and getting the RE joints... although, I don't think they are available in a 5/8" bolt option. not sure though.

Good luck!
Billy

Currie ones are just about the same price, if not cheaper(?).

My 2 cents.

i see 1 negative comment about them... i allready made a small purchase of 3 differant ballistic joints on saturday so if i experience any problems i will definately report on them here
