Question about Amps and Subs

all this being said, remember it is a cherokee and a jeep. there are several concerns. theft being a major one.

also, the cherokee is made with extremely cheap interior panels. i dynomated (cheap knockoff actually) and it helps a lot, but i am not going to win any competition...not that i wanted to.

my suggestion for a cherokee system is:

a good headunit - alpine or kenwood
good speakers - a lot of makes avail.
lots of dynamat. do the whole front doors and as much else as you want

if you want bass. a single 10 is all you need with this setup. the phoenix gold stuff is alright but if you want to spend some money (not too much)

go with a jl audio 250/1 amp and a jl audio 10w3v2 for woofer.

Re: Question about Amps and Subs/ design

You got to love search. So far there is plenty of good info on this thread. Originally I was looking for a powered sub enclosure. Unfortunately I was not going to get the type of sound I was after while still having a unit I could either easily remove or relocate inside the cargo area. My plan is to build a two chamber MDF box, one fan cooled to hold the amp, the other sealed with the speaker.

Has anyone had any experience with these free design programs or others? How 'bout real world knowledge that would be to the contrary.

here is a pic of my sub sealed enclosure. A buddy of mine made it as a copy of his but added the space up top to install an air tank for air storage for the York OBA I am planning and the bottom is to fit in my Yellow top. I will run 1/0 ga wire to the front with a 200 amp breaker next to the battery and I gotten som connectors so that i can splice it off under the back seats for the amps.

In my xj i run infinity all around, componenets up front, with the tweeter drilled just above the speaker, sounds amazing. Power them off my pioneer 7700 mp, works fine until i buy a 4 channel amp for them. (also has ipod ability which is amazing) for my subs i have two jl 10's and a memphis audio m class monoblock amp. Sounds amazing and is really well balanced for everyday use. If your looking for cheap, i just picked up an MTX 420 watt monoblock amp and two inifity 12's off of crutchfield.com for like 280 bucks, sounds great and is really loud.....

i run a clarion head unit, 2 pioneer and 2 sony xploid speakers (not the best), 2 10" audiobahn dual 4 ohm vice coil (running at 2 ohms and are amazing), legacy 2400 watt 2 channel amp, and a power acustik 3 farad capacitor. This is a great set up, if you like loud becasue it it VERY loud! i love the audiobahns. i suggest getting the subs and capacitor (if you need one) on ebay becasue they are incredibly cheap. i just baught a cheap 5 gauge amp install kit from wal mart and it is perfectly fine. i would suggest only getting a capacitor if you have above 1000-1500 watts. i am not a fan of running regular speakers off the amp, i think that should be just for the subs. oh and i recommend using old computer mouse pads as a cheap dynomat (works for me). good luck
