Trying to talk the wife into it.. although.. I have a 2dr with 4 dr front seats so the only way to get out is through the hatch..

Anyways.. my question is. what do you guys sleep on? Are there air mattresses narrow enough? Do you just hope no one steals your junk that you had to set outside the jeep to have room to sleep?

sleeping in the jeep isnt fun, and with a female, i'd recommend a tent.

if thats not an option, or you really dont feel like setting up camp, remove the bottom of the rear seat, push your front seats all the way forward, and TRY to get some sleep.

I've done it a couple times, it's not bad, but might be a stretch for 2 people. I didnt use a mattress the floors is surprisingly padded. Just make sure you park on a slight hill, I hate having my feet above my head.

If you're a smaller guy (and she's smaller still), it might be tolerable, but at 6'2" and 220#, I thought it completely sucked in a 4 door. With an inflatable mattress or pad, it might be tolerable, but you'll probably both be much happier in a tent.

agreed with Hubs.

If you really must, I suggest getting/making a tent sort of thing that will seal against the roof/outsides of the quarter panels/bumper and a couple boards and bits of 2x4 so you can open the hatch, extend the floor out a little, put on the tent, and pass out.

Or get a longbed MJ with a cap and do the same thing...

6' 275# and i dont mind sleeping in the jeep, but there's no way another person would fit, I sleep Diagonaly, (feet on left side hatch, head at Right rear door) I find it pretty comfertable.

My buddy is about 5'10'' and like 175# and his girl is about 5'9' 175# and they slept just fine in the jeep. but they had a cheat.. They used a Futon mattress and did this to the jeep:

I love sleeping in my Jeep, I've slept in there with my girl and my dad one night. When I'm alone I actually sleep better in the Jeep than I do at home in my bed.

I'll guess I'll give in and get a tent.. that's what she wants anyways. I was under the impression that the majority of you guys slept in your jeeps. I've heard "sell your XJ and buy a TJ and a tent." I'm only 5'11 145.. So alone I'd be fine, I can see how too ppl might be tight.

That all depends on what you have underneath you. You need a "buffer" between you and either the ground or if you are sleeping in an XJ, you have cold air underneath you. I've never slept in my XJ but have slept in the back of my Nissan and needed a good mattress and some blankets to insulate me from the cold air.

DrMoab - I thought this thread was about sleeping IN the jeep, not ON the jeep

Sweet setup, how much do those go for?

By the time you get all the load bars you need and the tent you are looking at around $1600 bucks.

As far as being warm...it isn't as warm as the inside of the Jeep but its a lot warmer than a ground tent. The floor is insulated and the fabric is pretty thick. Two people produce enough body heat to keep it pretty warm.
