putting to much money into my D30

you gotta do steering no matter what knuckle setup you go with, it's going to cost about the same either way for steering. however, you're going to have to do it twice if you decide to do the tera knuckle, wj swap, or reid knuckles later on down the road. IMO, do it the way you want the first time and get it over with.

that's what I'm saying. not sure why everyone keeps recommending currie and other aftermarket setups.. I'm only asking about knuckles. I always planned on doing ruffstuff steering from the get go

^^ that's what I figured. I knew there was a catch lol

now we're talkin. so they did a WJ swap with the only difference being the track bar was attached to the C? can a D30 handle that? just drill it out real big and sleeve it? any issues with added pressure at the end of the axle with it like that? that thing looks nuts. wouldn't it just be easier to do an over axle bracket and a panhard?

an OTA panhard bracket doesn't make the panhard as long as the drag link which is important in avoiding bumpsteer.

this mod also requires moving the coil buckets back over the center of the tube to clear the panhard.

if I remember correctly, this axle is a solid D44 center that was tubed by currie with TJ inner Cs on it.

check with cal or richard (goatman) to be sure.

you're right, hp d44 center with d30 inner c's and wj knuckles.
as for the otk panhard bracket, thats what i use and it's fine for the most part. however, it woulld probably be better how Cal has it i'm sure.

damn. ok we just stepped out of the comfort zone for how much effort I want to put into a turdy. WJ swap it is. might consider rotating knuckles.. thanks guys

you can still do the panhard that way, just cut the coil buckets off and move them back, then build the panhard bracket like the one on that axle.

Dude, that's not just a basic mod that normal people do. I considered it, but I'm betting it would take quite a bit of work, even with a plasma, to get the coil buckets off in good enough shape to reuse them.

WJ swap with the JKS axle trackbar mount works great, I think it was even made for the WJ kit.

You'd be surprised what an angle grinder can do. You're going to modify them anyhow, as Long as you don't take too much they can be RE-used.

wouldn't you just go to ruffstuff and pick up some new buckets...

There are some buckets out there yes.

If you're talking about cutting and rotating your inner C's you will need to go through all of that work anyways. You rotate them to turn the axle forward (pinion up), and keep the C's in the factory orientation to the ground. When you do that, it rotates your coil buckets up so they point forward, causing your coils to bow, and moves all of the control arm mounts, shock mounts .. it messes up everything.

Best to cut it all off and do it right. Move the axle forward 1.5" or so which keeps 35's centered in the wheel well, center the coils on the axle, rotate the C's, do a good trackbar mount, raise the LCA mounts closer to centerline on the axle for better angles, raise the UCA mounts a bit to fix the geometry, etc. It sounds like a ton of work, but you end up with a final product that just works.

If you *DO* do it, hone the inside of the tube you use for the axle side trackbar mount.. or you could get the bolt stuck in the hole. ;)

Add your upper control arm mount of choice and run.

That's what I was planning at one point. Was going to hack off the coil buckets and run these http://www.ballisticfabrication.com/Link-bracket-coil-spring-shock-mount-combo_p_1461.html

Since my truss and track bar mount are both all up on the coil perches, It would have taken me a ton of time, probably a plasma cutter, and wasted a bunch of money in the process. Got a bent tie rod instead that had clearance for the coils.

My axle is move forward 1-2" like Cal said, so the 35s are nice and centered. I haven't really thought about cutting and turning the C's, that's more work than I feel like doing right now. Next step is a heim trackbar and hydro assist to finish up the steering

however, I am looking for knuckle options not the stuff that goes inbetween. are there any other options out there besides tera, reid, or WJ? does anyone have any info about putting reid knuckles on? I like the price of the knuckle itself. but what hidden costs come with it?

FWIW... those knuckles are $20 cheaper here plus free shipping on certain stuff or over a certain dollar amount.

Those require you to source all ford/chevy Dana 44 outers, new axle shafts, replace your rear axle shafts with ones that have 5x5.5, and buy new wheels..

That may be but they are the same ones (part # D3001J) he was talking about getting and I was just pointing out he can get them at alljeeps.com for $20 cheaper if he was going to order them.
