Projext "V8 XJ" Build

sweet thanks. gonna be starting this swap in my xj in january, yours looks cleen so far

Thanks!

So I'm throwing around the idea of getting a LS intake. I just really don't want to cut the hood. I'd get an ls1 or ls6 intake with the lsbrackets.com relocation brackets.

I also ordered the JCR frame tie-ins for the front bumper on their Black Friday deals

ive had that debate with my self 1.5 million times already haha, i keep landing on doing the cowl hood cause im cheep :)

i can build the cowl hood for 60-80 bucks, swapping the intake and accessories is just to expensive and too big of a headache for me.

Sleeper Heep FTW!

I found an LS1 intake with 28# injectors, fuel rail and TB for less than $200 locally. I gave the TB to a friend as a spare (could have sold it to recoup a couple bucks), bought an LS1 water pump and pressed the truck pulley onto it (I think there are spacers available now so you don't need to do this) and made my own alternator bracket. $300 and I don't have an ugly ass hood...

And that's what I didn't want, an ugly ass hood. My wife is pretty damn short, 4'11". And I really want her to be able to drive. I know I'd have no problem.

So you can actually use a '09 and up truck pump and the outlet is moved further over so no need for spacers and it's nice not having another leak point.

That's good to know, looks like maybe '07 up? Anyway, pressing the pulley on and off sucked big time, the spacers were a better idea and the new style water pump is even better.

Wow, is $2,900 for a driveline pretty standard cost over there?

I could buy a whole parts vehicle for under $1,000 here. Pull what I need, and part out the rest for a profit.

Edit: lol John beat me to it.

IIRC, he bought it from Ebay. Same question on my end though, because everything in Canada is 2-10x the price of US, and I got my motor/trans/harness for $650.
Not that this adds anything to this thread :p.

I know you can't do anything about it, I'm not trying to give you a hard time. But it blows my mind what guys have to pay for engine/trans in other parts of the country.
Yep every local engine to me wasn't including anything or wasn't from a good vendor.

Yep Ebay is where it came from. $2900 was for engine, trans, ECM, Harness, Pedal assembly, and all accessories.

Yea, I get where you're coming from, but for the sake of "adding" to the conversation for the next guy who comes along and reads this as a reference for their swap, do you not have any wreckers with newer GMC/Chevy pickups?
I know wrecker prices in the US are usually 1/2 to 1/4 what we pay up here, and I can grab a complete drivetrain from the most expensive wrecker up here, for about $2000, and that's before I get core refunds for the old drivetrain.

There are only about 2 local to me. One was charging $2500 for engine only without Harness or accessories.

The other (LKQ) was charging $1500 for engine only.

Same story in my area. 1 local guy that parts them out and sells motor only for $1300+ depending on year and used transmissions are $5-800 that are usually worn out. Decent donor rigs are still in the $2500-4k range. This is why I haven't pulled the trigger on a motor yet. Local Upull yards have cheap motors but they are scarce and the hassle of pulling a motor/harness/trans at the junk yard is not very attractive especially when you can't test fire or even really turn the motor over or compression check it before you pull it.

Good progress. Love seeing updates! Keep up the good work.
