Project Jevy - A sequence of events

Regarding the top, you may want to send a PM to souske. He has a convertible top of some sort and may have some useful advice/experience.

Bank 1 shows lean, bank 2 shows rich, fuel trims look like they're attempting to correct, but o 2s still look stuck at extremes?

You sir, get a figurative cookie! Unless you wanted an actual cookie, i guess I can see if I can amazon prime one.... This is what happens when you plug your Bank 1 sensor to your Bank 2 harness and vice versa to the other side. Let me tell you..... the engine just LOVES that!

Done. Appreciate the advice.

Thats purdy, mine likely wont be near that pretty

Appreciate it. If you take your time when you do this, then it should come out the same.

Onto an update:

So I haven't been able to work on this thing due to work. I was in Japan for about 10 days on business and got super sick. Fever, flu, the works! Anyway, that sucked and then I flew back. Once I was back in the states, I was at my house for 30hrs and then flew back to the heartland to see some family and get some wedding stuff knocked out. Today, I finally got some progress on this pile!

I ordered up a vibrant cat and put it in front of the resonator and put all of that in front of the magnaflow muffler. I welded most of it outside on my chepo welding table and then installed it. Got the cat slipped over the 2-1 vibrant collector and welded up most of it. I couldn't get access to the whole thing since I have to pull the cross member to finish welding it, but its on there and Ill finish weld it when ever I get a chance to remove the cross-member.

From there, I moved onto the tail pipe section. I was going to mess with going over the axle and such, but I am fairly tired of dealing with exhaust at this point. In my rush, I cut the 90* 3" bend and put it on and started welding it. Don't mind the ugly looking welds, but it was at this time that I realized that I did not put in a point of separation for the exhaust, sooo............. that means the first time I need to pull the exhaust, I gotta chop it. I'll do that whenever the time comes and put a clamp on it then.

I will pull the cross-member maybe tomorrow or Saturday and finish welding the whole thing. May even chop it half and clamp it. Tomorrow, I need to finish the wiring for the sensors on the Racepak and then I just need to wait for new tuned PCM to get here from Black Bear Performance. Hopefully the tune will help this thing idle.

Finished up some the last of the small detail wiring and got the thing running and warmed up to burp the coolant system and check for leaks. Happy to report it runs like a champ and the exhaust sounds awesome with no leaks!!!!

Jeep Running and Exhaust Clip

Also, decided to join the MTR/k club like all of my wheeling buddies and ordered up a set of new and bigger rubber.

My current 35x12.5x17 tires will be up for sale soon if anyone is interested.

Of course, the updated list is next.

Decided to change the location of the PCM into the engine bay and away from my feet in the kick panel. Gotta finish welding the collector on the exhaust. Then just waiting for the black bear performance tuned ECM to get here.

I don't see "weld crossmember" on that list. Get on it.

And welcome to the MTR dark side.

Done!!!!!!

Sounds mean. Can't go wrong with magnaflow

Appreciate it. I am pretty happy as to how it sounds. Haven't driven it yet, but I can't imagine it getting worse. My only concern is droning at highway speeds, but I guess we'll see.

Got the ECM out of the drivers side kick panel since I felt like it would of been in the way while driving/wheeling. So i re-routed the harness and mounted the ECM and fuse box next to the air filter.

This let me cross off a few more things off my list, but it seems like when I take a couple things off, more things get added...

Forgot to update that after welding the winglets of the crossmember, I dropped the center section and finished welding the cat to the 2-1 collector. Then I throw the center section back in and touched up the freshly welded end pieces with some black paint. Unfortunately, I can't edit my previous post.

Yep, 2200ish. My hope is that the tires and wind noise are louder than the exhaust at that point so drone won't be an issue. Revving the engine with no load to 2200 is a touch but loud, but that was inside my garage.

A tail pipe will probably help with the drone. Besides, it's hard to beat the sound of a finished exhaust and a V8.

This is true. I just didn't want to mess with doing the exhaust over axle at this point in time. If it bothers me enough in the future, i'll cut off the dump and send it out over the axle and exit behind the jeep.

Got a semi small update. Tires showed up. Woot woot!!!! Got me some MTR Kevlars in the 37" flavor.

Also, one of my buddies apparently took some pics of me actually wheeling this pile during KOH 2016. Not the best pics, but its not the best jeep in the world....

This is the V-type notch on Jack hammer. Ultimately, this obstacle kicked my ass. Carb kept stalling because of the severe angle and I never made it up. Was pretty disappointed with that and this is LITERALLY the reason I came home after this trip and ordered an LS swap. To top it all off, all of my ****ing sockets fell out of my craftsman toolbox thing and that just royally pissed me off. Then I am not one to just throw a pile of sockets and keep going, so I had to organize them. Kind of pissed off my buddies, but yeah.....

The the front axle started pushing fluid out. Kind of odd, since the breather was clear and brand new.

man, that was a long night of drinking. my favorite part was watching the FOX guys harass you for putting bilstein stickers on the window in their booth. that... and back door. we are going to spend more time there next year.

here is a good one for ya.

now, i cant speak for the 37s, but my 35" MTRs took quite a while to break in. even still i run them at 4-6 pounds now with beadlocks. be sure to REALLY air down from now on. none of this 15psi stuff. admitedly our terrains are much different... i dont have to go 50mph between opstacles.

I forgot you took that pic Walt. It came out awesome!

yes, more time is needed at back door next year. we left early to go "wheeling" only for me to fail at said wheeling......

We weren't doing 50. We were trying, but it was like 20mph. Until that time when we hit the massive hole, bottomed out/destroyed the rear shocks and Pete bashed his head into the roof. We were doing like 25mph then... Ha!!

Next year, there won't be a roof for Pete to hit his head on though, but with 450hp and bump cans, we may hit 50mph. Also, my defrost vent wont come flying out when we hit a bump. Its gonna be like a Cadillac in there compared to last time!

I demand a rear suspension seat, get on it.

I wouldn't get your hopes up Peter. I'll have a pair of harnesses back there for passengers, but I am not changing out that back seat for the foreseeable future.

Onto an update:

After I got the tires in, I came home from Indiana on business and got to work. My fiance had rolled these things into the 2nd garage, and I busted off the lug nuts and pulled all tires in there to prep for sat. Garage o' tires in there.

13882435_10100176049547895_6750222538808104060_n.jpg

From there, I tried to convince some of my friends to come help, but I coulnt sucker any of them into doing this. I dont blame them, I HATE doing tires, especially without a tire machine. This time, I called a tire shop up the street and after taking off the bolts/rings, I towed them over there and they broke the bead and help me separate the wheels from tires for only 20 bucks! Totally worth the money!!

From there, I conquered those bitches and had to do my jack daniels pose. I still can't get over how huge these things are.

After all 4 were finished and my back hurt like crazy, I got to put them on the jeep.

That about wraps up my weekend. So today I picked up the deaver coil springs from them in Santa Ana. I installed those suckers and it got interesting to say the least. Nothing a jack, jackstands and hi-lift cant accomplish.

13879458_10100176049542905_3708795819185770474_n.jpg

I then adjusted the shackles on the leafs to match the new Deaver lift height and set her back on the ground. To wrap up, I did my ceremonial list review and crossed off a couple more items off of it.

So time for another update.

So was having an issue with this thing idling due to the cam. After some reading, more reading, a couple of calls to my tuner and reviewing the timing tables below, we decided that since the cam is so large, it needs more air. My tuner mentioned that he is really surprised since he originally commanded 80% more airflow over stock during idle, but it still wouldn't run without throttle input. So now, we are at over 110% commanded airflow during idle condition with a couple more degrees of base timing to get this thing rolling.

Right side was the refined tune and left side was 3+ degress of timing during idle rpm to see if it would run. I flashed the tune, but we still had an airflow problem. So back went the PCM to the tuner in order to flash a revised tune with the new goodies I decided to buy.

In reference to those goodies, my hood wouldn't close with the truck manifold on top of the engine. To solve this, I spent money. Unfortunately, A LOT more than I should have, but meh.... screw it..!!

This. thing. is. ****ing. gorgeous.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ...........and MASSIVE..!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I only have a couple beefs with this thing. For the amount of money that they want for this thing, they require you to actually drill a damn hole for the MAP sensor depending on what style of hole you have. Then, since you drilled into the damn thing, you have to split it the manifold in half to clean out all the shavings and put it back together. Its not really that big of a deal, but I feel its an option that should be included for the price. The other beef I have with this is that the throttle bracket is separate and not included. Not only is it not included, but the style that this manifold requires for the cable setup, I had to fab a custom bracket to move the cable up about 1.25". Again, not that big of a deal but still unfortunate. If you get a DBW setup then this doesn't apply to you.

So I got all the packages yesterday, tore everything apart and started the install. I played hookie from work today and I finished the install. It wasn't so bad, but I had to redesign a couple of things. The throttle cable, as previously mentioned, the intake(again), fuel rails, injector connectors, PCV and re-routing of some harnesses/hoses. Here is the end result.

AND................................... now the hood closes..!!!!!

Something I didn't take a picture of is the upgraded injectors. Since the cam is pushing so much air into this thing, I figured that the duty cycle was probably gonna get past 80%, or the "norm", safety margin with the stock 24lb/hr injectors. So I upgraded to 400cc, which is about 38lb/hr, Bosch red top injectors to compensate for fuel and keep the duty cycle happy. They were a tight squeeze and the body slightly touches the manifold, but they "fit".

Here is a random pic off the internet.

redtop_a_600.jpg

Lastly, since I went from truck injectors to LS1 style injectors, I had to convert from multec 2 to EV1. I ordered up those little pigtail adapters that you just plug in, but they made the harness super long, which looked stupid, and they were junk. So I returned those and busted out my google mojo and ended up finding these painless connectors that you wire in. They are freaking gold and cheaper too! Super easy to do, great instructions and cleaned up the harness. Hardest part was not destroying your back leaning over a lifted jeep. I highly recommend them!

60130.jpg

Anyway, PCM comes back from the tuner tomorrow. So I am going to slap that thing in, prime the fuel system to check for leaks and let her rip. Hopefully I can get that thing running well since it sounds soooo awesome idling!
