Project Downward Spiral

I got a few things done last night. Only a few things 'cause plunging a 1.75" endmill through 2" of steel isn't exactly fast.

In short, the D-ring mounts, bumper brackets, and fairlead spacers are now done. I've all I've got to do weld 'em in then bend up and notch some more tube.

Got a few more things done tonight.
I welded up the fairlead spacers and then tapped the holes. Sits good, I'm happy with the position. Then I threw the tube up in place to figure out the corner angles. I did pull it back down and get them bent, but no photo of that, just during the figuring.

Here's a shot looking straight down. As you can see I'll have more clearance than the stock bumper and the fairlead is tucked enough that it isn't past the tube.

Bill, maybe I missed it, but what was the need for the hawse spacer?

And you never answered my question about the tire defect.

just makin sure you will have somthin to protect your hood when me, colin and travis do frt digs on yo hood
Yeah, yeah, yeah...

The spacer is nothing more than a piece of 1/2" plate I cut up. It is needed because the mounting feet for the winch are on the same line as the mounting for the fairlead. Given the the feet on the winch basically touch the inside of the steel that would leave me no room for a nut on the back side. I could have tapped just the 2x6, but then it would only be 1/4" of thread engagement. Adding the 1/2" steps it up to 3/4" of engagement.
And you never answered my question about the tire defect.
I did. Just an issue with the inner cords. I've been told PitBull and 4WS are going to take care of me and thus I'm happy, no need to rehash it.

4WS? I am searching for Qty 2 37" Maxxis Creepies right now (need to bump up my Geriatric Dino thread again...) and I am just getting pricing from all of my sources. I don't recognize 4WS though, do they sell Maxxis tires?

Thx,
A.

Andy, 4WS is short for 4WheelersSupply in Springfield, Missouri.
I'm not sure if they carry Maxxis or not.

Just 2? You going to run different tires front and rear (like me, haha we'll see how it works) or did you already grab some?

I got my 38.5's from this ebay store:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/New-...ptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories

Place is called YourNextTire. Been great to deal with and from what I've found, just about blow everyone out of the water on pricing (on the 38.5s anyway). If you call you can sometimes get another 5% off instead of going through the ebay listing.

Wow, thats a smokin deal for ONE tire... I called them, and they only have 1 37/14.50-15, and no 12.50's in stock...:bawl::bawl:

He said he would verify his stock and call me if he has any 12.50's, but it didn't sound good.

Thanks for the link though, know of any other hot leads like that?

(sorry for the minor hijack Bill...)

Got a little bit done today. I played around with three different revisions of the lower tube and I'm still not sure I'm happy with it.

Anyway, here's two shots of the third and final one:

Self explanatory pictures.
I still don't like that bottom middle tube, but it'll stay that way for awhile. Obviously it still needs some cleanup and paint.

I might add one from the A-Pillar down the top of the fenders and tie it into the hoop.
That, if anything, is the only thing I'll be adding.
