Project Downward Spiral

:worship: seriously.

Every time I look at those, I forget just how huge they are till I realize that their width is equal to my rims diameter.

Not much to report on, other than a few poser pictures from last week. :D

Progress?
Not much, I pulled the stock bumper off and got a little bit laid out in cardboard. I'm not sure how much height I want to take out of the grill. I'm still playing with that. Right now I'm looking at cutting out 6" from the bottom of the header panel. I'm toying with anything between 5.5" and 7".

I won't get much done on it this weekend.

why even bother with the stock crossmember at all? :dunno: cut all that crappy sheetmetal stuff out and some 2x5 rect would replace it very nicely, maybe some 2x6. add a little tube to protect the front end, and, BAM!!! done.

Bill.

Put the damn winch behind the front crossmember.
:laugh3:
I almost knew it was coming. Alright, I'll look at putting it behind. I would just wish there was some more clearance between the balancer and the winch.
Thoughts on cutting that sheetmetal nothingness out and spacing the winch forward ~2"? I'd need that bumper there anyway to protect the header a bit. I think I could get it to be as low profile as yours and this guys and still do that. My only issue then would be doing something with the trans cooler lines. I don't have many options there.

Willing to donate ~34" to the cause? I've got no 2x6.

here here

I may or may not have you covered here... Let me double check my stash. why 2x6? why not 2x5? I can't remember what the bolt pattern is for the winch...(just trying to save weight/size)

guys why are you telling him to cut the frame up? thats a terrible idea, itll fold like a taco, modifying the uniframe is a no-no

The mounting bolt pattern on my M8000 is 10.0" x 4.5". If I basically make a C channel and sink the winch into it the 2x5" would not work. That's how I would also gain the 2" in depth. Assuming that all works.
That would be awesome if either you or Ross had a section. I'll slip whomever some cash for it. The other option is to use the 1/2" plate I've got and gusset the corners.

This crossmember is the only section of the unirail system that is still stock and not otherwise modified. Ken, have you even seen my Jeep? Haha!

Yeah I have :spin1:

As a general rule, if one of my posts is missing punctuation or capitalization, invert everything I said before considering its content :eyes:

yeah, i figured it was a bolt pattern/clearance issue. I can say one thing: if i have it, it has a light coat of rust on it. stupid damp basement in my old house... how long is that 1/2" plate that you have? i have no doubt that you could make that stiff enough if you gussetted it properly.

- Drop brackets/short arms up front, RE springs, ACOS, Fox Shocks ( I know the DBs aren’t the best, but I do have them now so they aren’t costing me anything more)
Reread this thread at some point and found this... :roflmao:

Either 30" or 32" iirc. and 10" wide.

I only know because I sold it to Bill :spin1:

It's what was left after I made my U-bolt plates. Think I picked up a 40-50 inch piece for 50 or 60 bucks? Got it as a drop piece from sullivan metals.

Done deal on the bumper, the stock crossmember is going away.

Finally got some time to mount up a Rocker. I can same I'm surprised as I thought they'd be wider as unmounted they looked like it.

To compare they are both mounted on an H1 with 7psi in the tire, the Maddog has a 14" section width while the Rocker has a 15 1/4" section width.
The biggest difference really comes in the width of the actual tread portion, the Rocker is much wider. The Maddog furthest lug to furthest lug across the top measures ~10 1/2", the Rocker measures ~13 1/4".
As far as height goes; with one on each corner of the rear the difference was only 1/16". Looks like they'll work out just fine.

Comparison shot:

Worried about any added clearence issues now Bill? Looks like out back should be fine overall, maybe near the coilover at full stuff :dunno: How about the front fenders and inner fenders while turning and all that other junk?
