my bushings in my RE arms are pretty much worn. instead of replacing everything and getting drop brackets it may just be more cost effective to go strait to long arms. tomorrow ill start swapping parts.... sway bar stuff, bump stops, knuckles, shafts/units... saturday i should be done, and ill go get it aligned monday.

Re: Project "Something Awesome"

How many tons are your stands? Need to go buy some big bastards so i can make two hover jeeps!
i really couldnt say, they are probably as old as i am. my father has had them since i can remember.

Don't waste your money on an alignment for a Jeep. You can do it yourself for free; the first trip down a trail will likely knock it out again anyway.
i know toe in/out, and am sure i can manage to center the wheel myself. care to explain or link to the rest? the ball joints arent adjustable, so i really have no say in camber either right?

Your control arms are fixed, right? If that's the case all that can be done is toe in/out and steering wheel centering - simple. I believe the D30 needs 1/8" toe out to be happy but double check for yourself.

yes, fixed. isnt there a tiny bit of adjustment on castor via the LCA frame side mount? or is it really negligible?

Re: Project "Something Awesome"

as far as control arms go... it looks like the stock adjusters are all maxed out. driveway alignment here i come!

didnt get to where i wanted to be today, but got all of my adjusting done. even did this:

nice black fender wells. :)

:soapbox:
im to the point where everything is going back in, but i ran into a snag. the mini skids i welded on dont allow the LCAs to fit. i didnt test fit before because the arms werent off of the jeep. the plan is to cut them open, bend it wider, test fit and fill it in.

Re: Project "Something Awesome"

clearance!

it looks tight but the SF joint has enough room to fully articulate.

and progress!

looks better in person i think. now the jeep is sitting on its own 4 wheels. got everything hooked up but the tie rod. i cant get the 2 TREs off, so im letting it soak in PB blaster over night. if push comes to shove ill bust out the heat. ive got to torque everyhting down, align the steering (i was playing with it tonight, easy enough...), recheck that the track bar is centered (it should be pretty close, it was still adjusted from my other 30), grease everything, and then i get to test my new 4WD!

place in town will do alignments for $20, im going to have it done. my measurements are pretty darn close, but i got to see if its the alignment or a sloppy pinion thats giving me vibes around 65mph. 4wd works now. :D

Re: Project "Something Awesome"

took the front drive shaft out and its gone completely... drives like a champ at 90. it doesnt pull left or right so i think my driveway alignment is at least "close". ill just leave it out until winter and/or its time to go wheeling. i noticed the slip shaft has a good bit of play as well, so that could very well be the issue as well, or at least part of it.

also, my pedal is a lot softer now, i did install new pads... but didnt think it would need to be bled, i never disconnected the calipers.

itll actually sit a good 1 1/2-2" more in, and a little more forward. i just couldnt resist putting it in there. i already like this stuff a LOT more than the axle swap. maybe thats why i took auto BODY in high school and not auto MECHANICS. off to bed, i work the graveyard shift. calling out friday night, and the woman will be here. im going to give her a flap disk and have her go to town stripping my bumper in preparation for a repaint.

goodnight.
