Well... Ive been brain storming on the lil 600 toyota I bought and decided I wanted to build a budget baja-ish vehicle for running the roads up here with all the crazy frost heaves.

The requirements I wanted...

I hate IFS and want a solid front...... and still keep it 2wd.......
Flatbed and exo cage
31's up front and 33's in the back...

Then I thought, who the hell make a vehicle that has a solid 2wd axle thats easy to work with... oh yea,........ THE XJ!!!

So, I went to the junkyard... and bam... a 2wd 96..

I talked to the folks, they want 300 for the complete axle, steering, coils and everything hub to hub.... Its Alaska so the price isnt all that bad.

I measured the frame on the yota, width between coils and everything... holy shit, this will work as is!!!! even the steering since the yota doesnt have power steering. I plan on plumbing the XJ calipers into the yota brake system as well

I'm even going to use the control arm mounts and use them to make a 3 link to the yota frame..

So heres the parts list thus far.....

XJ 2wd front axle assembly, steering, trac bar, coils

Isuzu trooper rear LCA's since they are the same bushing width and run over 30 inches long

Ford Super duty Shock mounts

springs from a couple s-10's and other yota's to build a new pack

shackles

Nice bilsteins or some higher end shock... hopefully remote res. rear at least.

anywho, any comments, suggestions ect?

lol, thanks for that fawkers...

I'll do you a favor and save you lots of time and money; words will be kept to a minimum to make sure there's nothing lost in translation.

Save your money on parts for the 'buildup' and use this to fit your existing tires:

Then run it.

Then when the rig fails in magnificent fashion (it will eventually happen in either build format) use this:

um WOW! You are weird haha. So your gonna Solid 2wd axle it. and put 31's up front with 33's in the rear? um why?
He's from South Carolina. Big ass rear tires on a 2wd is SOP!

I think it does belong in advanced fab... He's building an entire rig around a xj front axle :)

Ok I might understand the 2wd part. The thought of having a 2wd to jump around gives me a little chubby. But an Exo cage on a 2wd? there goes the weight you saved.

Also why don't you buy a 2wd xj for 300$ there was one here in WA for 200$ with a bad tranny. Short drive from alaska :D

Forget all the naysayers. Who cares if it's a weird idea. Do whatever you want with the thing and have a blast beating the crap out of it. :)

I remember a few years ago we were on the Rubicon hanging out at Little Sluice and a guy came through with a stock Toy 4x4 truck with 31" tires. He was with some guys in Cruisers and Toy PU's. They FLOGGED that stock truck through Little Sluice, even using big pry bars to push it. Ended up he had a really nicely built Cruiser, but got this little truck for like $300. It was his second time through the 'Con with it, and he told us it was the most fun he'd ever had for $300.

Post up some pics of what it looks like after you've beat on it for awhile. :D

Oh, and struss that D30 a little.
