"Popping" noise while climbing in 4wd...

May be way off but check your axle shaft U joints $14 everywhere, if this noise is not under hard compression of the suspension, like just a slippery climb it could very well be the culprit, check for play in these if they have any play replace them it only takes an hour, a little bit of play in these will make a lot of noise. simple check is put your trans in reverse back up a few feet hold the brakes and shift into drive, aside from the usual noise from putting your tranny into gear when you let off of the brakes and hit the gas lightly you will hear the sound in 2wd or 4wd, if so usually u joint. good luck

U-joints are good... checked all of them recently. Ordered a set of M.O.R.E. Bombproof motor mounts. Not driving any more until I get them installed as the OEM mounts are really starting to self-destruct.

Drive shaft out of time?

Sounds good Meatplow. Hope that solves the problem (it should). Mine got noisy on an extended desert trip and I cut things 2 days short because I couldn't figure it out. At first it only happened in 4WD climbing while turning left. Everything seemed tight and the only thing I could think of was the teeth on the front diff. Buddy of mine (master mechanic) listened to my description, did the test I told you about, and I thought the engine was going to flip over in the compartment. I just went with OEM replacements when I did mine. The originals had lasted 12 years so I wasn't too worried about it. If I have trouble in the future I'll check out the M.O.R.E. mounts.
