... ok guys, i got a popping noise coming from my front end that i can feel in the floor when ever i get a certain amount of flex (i.e. turn a corner through a deep gutter, turn into a steep drive way) i already checked my track bar, upper and lower arms, and just today i changed my sway bar bushings everything with that seems to be ok aswell, i did roll my jeep a few months back and sustained some minor inner fender damage( just a little bent in) could that have something to do with it? what else could it be? upper arm bushings? any advice is appriciated. thanks.

Nate.

Check your steering box bolts and spacer.

thanks. ill check that out tomorrow. any other ideas as to what it might be?

You should post your year, mileage and any mods done to suspension or steering. Without that, you will get guesses and speculation.

I usually get popping noises coming from my rear end, myself. Might want to consult a doctor.

Make sure you didn't crack the frame rail between the track bar mount and steering box.

sounds like control arm joints or trackbar to me. even if you grab the joints and try and wiggle them, it may not be enough to get them to move. get a friend to turn the wheel back and forth and see what you can see.

just cruising around this site looking for info and saw this.
i also have this same problem. i found that my pitman arm was hitting the coil spring when i turned hard or got alot of body roll. may be something else but worth checking
my shocks are shot.

He probably means his sway bar or something..or tire.

CHECK YOUR LOWER CONTROL ARM BUSHINGS. If you have a short arm lift of around oh..4+ inches...

uhhhhhhhh yeah like Rob said, not even possible. I suspect you mean your sway bar or sway bar linkage.

I had a popping noise from my front end that turned out to be loose front axle nuts. Mine ('97 XJ Country) are 36mm and need to be torqued to 170ft/lbs. Take a look at kastein's signature, that the kind of detail we need to answers questions.

Tried to ID a popping noise on my 98 XJ. Replaced every bushing and checked every joint. Ended up being a cracked frame rail that revealed itself by going into full on death wobble on the highway. The crack was just visibile coming out from underneath the track bar bracket & motor mount bracket. Try getting underneath and have someone turn the steering wheel. Watch the steering box area and all related joints see if there is any movement.

Same problem with my 99. Replaced the track bar, same thing, did the control arm bushings, same thing, checked the stearing box, nothing. It felt like it was coming from under my left foot some where. You could feel it snapping through the frame. Said to hell with it, and got every thing I needed to do the front axle. I wound up haveing bad axle u joints, ball joints and wheel bearings. Rides like new now, should have done it long ago.
