Poor Plymouth

Christine is looking a little rough! I thought she would come out with the lights on and the radio playing some oldie's music!

Water leaked into the "vault" that the car was stored in, the car was covered in a layer of rust when it was unveiled. They had put a glass jar of gasoline in the trunk when they buried it incase gasoline wasn't around anymore when they pull it out. The gas was still good, but the gastank for the car was not.

The contents of the time capsule were sealed better and survived without harm.

Yeah it was a big deal here in tulsa. They showed the unvieling instead of the final price is right episode lol.

For some reason, the link above to the main site has dead links to all the features.

Is there somewhere else to go to where the unveiled car can be seen? All I've seen is it being lifted from the crypt still covered.

Bummer that Coddington is the one they picked...... that dude's a putz.

Wonder if Price fans get as pissed off about that as soap fans do:rattle: :moon:

Here's a page on buriedcar.com that has the car and time capsule pics on it.

I agree with you're comments on Boyd too, I've seen where people have suggested to let him restore the car, but after watching his crew I wouldn't trust them to maintain my XJ. If the car gets restored it really needs to go to a crew like Jay Leno has working for him.

Guessing you dont know who Boyd Coddington is to the "Hot Rod" scene:gee:

Also what you are watching on TV is "drama TV" which is what people want to see. If everything went right and there was no problems it would be a pretty boring show.

I find what happened to the car in the vault quite distubing. Ive been waiting the last week to see it and all I see is a giant ball of crap. Was hoping to see a mint 57. Guess they should have built a better vault.

ditto, that vault they built must of really sucked. I was hoping to see a clean crisp 57 and all you see is a rusted out mud covered piece of metal, kinda extremely sad to see it destroyed.

Believe it our not, somebody restored the original General Lee#1 which should have been almost impossible or prohibitively expensive (it didn't even cost $100k!), and I can't imagine this Plymouth woud be to much worse.

I believe Boyd originally said he would restore the car for free. Then, after seeing it uncovered he changed it to "well I think we should leave it this way". Its going to be on display at a local dealer later this week so I am going to take a look at it.

Tulsa also has a 1998 Plymouth Prowler thats in an above ground vault that is allegedly much more modern than the concrete box the 57 was in. The prowler was put in in 98 for Tulsas 100th anniversary. Its due to come out in 2048.

I wonder, what is up with you guys burrying cars to be taken out during important events, who came up whith that idea?

Ya it was a cool idea though, and a little disapointing that it came out that bad, looks sort of like the Titanic with all that mud and gunk in it.

Im thinking the biggest point was to see a crisp 57 not a restore job on one that should have been crisp.

LOL I don't know but people have come from all over the world to see this, they interviewed a guy who brought his family from Brazil, and another guy from Finland, New Zealand etc.

They said on the news that Tulsa did this in 1957 to get at OKC for having all kinds of festivals etc. It was pretty much forgotten about for along time, alot of people had no idea about the car until the last few weeks.

Now here is a car that was well preserved, it was put up on blocks, wrapped in brown paper, and stuck in a barn during WW2 and wasn't brought out of retirement until the early 60's. This car is original!

Of course I do.... I can easily give Boyd his credit for his past efforts and talent, but as far as a fair business manager, employer.... he's an ass. The proof is in the fact that Chip Foose was able to specifically target his "star" employees and steel them away by simply treating them respectfully and commending them for their work and talent, not bitching them out for unrealistic deadlines and making them work weekends.

Pretty interesting to see all the faces that appeared on the early episodes of "American Hot Rod" who are now showing up at SEMA, Riddler shows, winning huge awards, and Overhaulin' shows - all under Foose.

Boyd couldn't even keep his wheel business going. Sold out to American Racing.

His son is just as big a douche. When they still had the wheel business, he posted up on my GTO enthusiast forum asking for owners to come to their shop, and have their cars photographed with various models of their wheels. He wouldn't pay them, nor would he give them a discount on a set of wheels...... His quote on the forum was "They get the prestige of having their car in our wheel catalog. That's a gift in itself."

Coddington = FTL.

X2 YELLAHEEP!

If watching their shows are any indication of how things are normally when the cameras are off, it's really no suprise that people like Foose, Traplainer (I know I'm spelling that wrong), and Leno have the loyal crews that they do.
