please help wipers are not working

So, now you need to check at the wiper motor to see if you get voltage there. One wire should have voltage all the time to make it park the wipers. So set your meter to DC volts and see if any wires at the motor get voltage. You can test your meter setting by touching the red to the positive battery post and black to the negative. You should read somewhere from 12.5 to 13.5 volts at the battery. Then put the wiper switch on and see if you get current when you ground the black probe and put the red one into the wiper motor plug (try all the sockets). Then you can compare what you find to your years wiring diagram.

ok im really bad at this wiring thing and reading the diagrams also so i see what happens!
hopefully something works
just to confirm even though the volts started dropping the circuit nreaker socket is still good is it still getting the voltage that it should i was under the impression that it should stay at 112 volts or at lease close to it.

It should show 12 volts (or at least 12 to 13.5). Take your meter and put it on the battery posts. That's what you should get. You should also get that at the plug. If you don't, the meter is set wrong. I just kind of figured that you got 13.2 but then lost good contact with your probe. Test it on the battery until you got it figured out. Like I said, you want DC volts with the smallest number greater than 12. On my little meter, I have to set it for 50. That means that if the needle went all the way to the end, I would have 50V. It only shows 13.5V like it should.

got ya thanks ill test it on my battery tomorrow
i printed out the service manual pages that ill need on the washer and wiring diagrams so hopefully i can pull this thing together

quick questions the lockplate retaining pin ( the c-clip) after the steering wheel comes the horn assembly, then the lockplate well my question is am i suppose to use a new c-clip cause from the lock plate up it feels loose in the car i've been dealing with it but it feels really weird i had alot of trouble getting that lock plate back on by just pushing it down i feel like i damage the lock plate would that cause this type of movement
note it only moves from the lock plate area up?
i still have the column i oringinaly took out so i guess i can use that for parts?

my next job a be the driveshaft u joints!

Thanks for the warning! (LOL) U-joints will be cake compared to tracing wiring. Yeah, maybe you could get the old lock ring into the new steering column easier now that you've practiced. If they get bent up too far, they might not work good.

I don't know what your lock ring is like. Does it have two little holes in the ends of it? In that case, snap ring pliers would help. Usually these will work for external or internal snap rings and have interchangable tips.

wiper connector reading 12. something at the white line on low
and on high the blue line reads 8.something
is that good or bad
circuit breaker definately good
and definately getting good voltage to the breaker socket

anyone got a pic of the wiper circuit breaker?

In a Renix era XJ it is at the bottom of the fuse panel where my big-ass left foot kicks it when I'm driving.

Rectangular, silver in color, two male spade connectors on the back where it plugs in.

Probe in their on the OUT side with a voltmeter and turn on the wiper switch, see if it is blowing instantly.

reviving this old thread to show that i've searched and read through it....

wipers dont work on my 92, i've checked the 4.8amp breaker and it appears to be good, i've replaced the wiper motor with a known functional one from my 94 parts jeep, and i've probed the socket for the breaker and seen 12volts at both the socket and the wiper motor connector (at 1 of the 3 or 4 pins), what else is there for me to check that could stop the wipers from working entirely?

I'm not sure if the following is pertinent in your case but I guess it wouldn't hurt to check.

If you have variable speed wipers there is a circuit board plugged in behind the lower dash panel just to the right of the steering column IIRC. If the electronics on the it board fail, the variable speed function will not work but I don't recall whether the normal two speed continues to work. Hopefully, someone will get on and confirm that.

I do know that the two plugs that plug into the board mate, so that the board can be removed and the plugs joined together to enable continued basic wiper function. You might check and see what you have. You can feel around up under the dash to find the the board which is, I believe, attached with velcro.

Let us know what you find.

if you remove the wiper delay module you will also lose intermittent and the wiper park feature, but high and low should work.

Question is do the wipers work with a defective module in place? I replaced my delay module some years ago but I just don't remember what was going on prior to the exchange.
